people feed on violence and war, thats the way of the world. "The universe is hostile, So impersonal. Devour to survive, so it is, So it's always been" this part is pretty self explanitory "Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance. Vicariously I live while the whole world dies. You all need it too - don't lie." vicarious means to gain from what someone else does, so this is self explaintory too. I love how he says die at the beginning, its demonicly pleasing |

| (cont) in the video, ther are two beings who cant comunicate with each other. idk what the beginning means, but later on, one of them takes a chunk of flesh out of the others head, including its EAR. these things with only MOUTHs crawl out and get killed by the being. this is basicly saying that god put these things in them that would scramble whatever was said and confuse it. in the end the two beings had to combine, literaly, into one being to go back to how they were. just a stab | |

this song is about the tower of babel, schism has to do with the seperation of uniform language. In the tower of babel myth, a city tries to reach god by building a tower to the heavens. god doesnt like there arogance and knows that they are not ready so he makes everyone speak different languages so they cannot communicate, thus oblitrerating the idea of building anything. The myth also explained the reason their are so many languages. there are parts in the lyrics like: "I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away" "To bring the pieces back together, rediscover comunication" that talk about babel falling apart and not being able to do anything until they could comunicate again. "No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over" this could be the builders wanting to deflect the wrath of god away from themselfs at someone else. They didnt want god to think of them as the power hungry savages they had proved they where by attempting to reach god |

ok, mine mite be a little dif, but TOOL is way deeper then their being given credit for. I think this song is about adam and eve. if uv ever watched the vid, ull see a guy thats extremely cold and bored looking, probobly allone in eden. later he takes off a chunk of flesh from his shoulder and eve was formed. there was a nother part where both of their brains look like their being attacked by a tumor, this would rep. the apples of knowledge. in the lyrics their are clues like "Something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be Desensitized to everything What became of subtlety?" this could have to do with being given everything to them by god and not having to work for it. |
