"Pray for a revolution" Inspiring. Love this song and pray to God myself.. a revolution IS needed.. to bring down the. brotherhood of man.. Masonic Brotherhood that is.. or any secret societies. For Women? We had 2 successful revolutions, One, when Jesus uttered the words "He without sin, cast the first stone" That revolutionized the planets treatment of Women.. where the Words were heeded. Two, When Thomas Jefferson wrote at length of the equality of our Women, and etched in our Declaration of Independence those very words for all mankind. Linda Perry.. on a personal note, I kind of feel a little sense of kinship I was born the youngest of 5 children also in April of 1965.. I hear the passion of my generation. I hope someday Linda will look at the writings of Thomas Jefferson of the changes her Founding Father had here for Women & Liberty... I hope someday she sees through the 2 party "brotherhood".. that she points people to opt OUT of the parties.. (which are our downfall, a futile fight because in the secret allegiance shadows, both are on the SAME side) Our best hope is supporting & defending the words, the promises.. etched for all time if we will only see them.. The Constitution and Declaration of independence. Yes We the People need a revolution once again.. Because those who serve our documents, can not be faithful to their "Public oath" when they have made secret allegiances to brotherhoods in the shadows.. they are long corrupted. Peace.. |

Tannisroot, Interesting thoughts and they make some sense. Whether that was the original meaning or not, could it be relevant to the "99 weekers" of 2012? I feel bad that our country is in this economic state & for people laid off work.. but the 99 weekers out there who would rather get a "Free ride (government check) for two years, than take a less desirable job than they had before? And what about the College Students now pushing for debt forgiveness on their loans? They read & signed the contract, you have the education you so desired.. Is it time to buck up people? You may not get the job of your original desire...but maybe it's time to take what you can get and contribute and pay back your obligations? Then there is the House squatters.. Canada has been a "land of the free" so to speak? As a neighbor of the USA... it has adopted similar laws and constitutions? "Free will" is something Neil has known? But what about in China? where it is illegal to own a bible? Or Muslim countries where you can be killed if you speak the gospel? Or Countries you are forced to have a portrait of your current ruler in your home? We have Freedom here.. but many do not. I think their is a political aspect of freedom (maybe just an influence? whether Neil has acknowledged it or not) within this song. Well I can appreciate your thoughts.. but how does this song have to do with your Marxist ideals? You might be thinking of "The trees" by Rush or something? But why such hatred towards other peoples ideology? And where do you get your information regarding Capitalist hating each other? or being conformist drones? Freedom is all about individualism.. balanced with charity. Where did you get your education if I may ask? Neighbors not united? Really? Did you know that in the United States of America All of our earliest major University's and Hospitals were donated by people (congregations)of faith? Its called charity! Our Fire departments, Libraries, were donated and staffed by volunteers! We have opportunity in America & prosper from hard work & individual ingenuity! We do not wait in line or rely on hand outs from the government. Do you see people starving in our city's? Where do you think the food comes from? in the homeless shelters? mostly staffed at churches? It comes from private resources not government! America is a land of opportunity not guarantees. Did you know that Slavery has existed worldwide for 7 thousand years including in Spain, China & the earliest slaves were in Syria? The first movement to FREE slaves was in America! My comments on a Christmas eve 2011.. "They said "There'll be peace on Earth", I agree, this is so commonly used during the over-commercialized Christmas season, but even more so, is the phrase misinterpreted. Some here apparently would like to hold these song lyrics up like a banner & say: "see! Christianity is a hoax like Santa, there is no peace on earth either"! If you assume that is what Greg Lake meant to imply (remembering this was his "younger" days writing in 1974) do you think he spent much time doing a theological study of the phrase spoken of? "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:14) The word "Peace" here is presented as a gift. A gift to all of mankind? Well yes, it is available to all mankind. But it is technically a peace for those men "whom His favor rests" Meaning those that believe that God sent His son to die for their sins.. as a peace offering, for those who believe and follow Him. So, if the young man Greg (in 1974) who penned these thoughts & turned them into a song believes that "peace" on earth meant peace between every man in the world? Sadly he was misguided by them, those or "they"! Good song, good thoughts & expressions, but just not what the original phrase implies. To bring some further context to my comments I reference some additional phrases spoken by the "Prince of Peace" Himself:..Oh & Merry Christmas! "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace--but now it is hidden from your eyes. (Luke 19:42) "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword" (Matthew 10:34) (Division between those who worship earth as opposed to the "Creator" of the earth... or you you might just say judgment day) "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid"(John 14:27) "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) |

From The Republican interview Q. "Only The Good Die Young" was controversial for the time. Did you know that was going to happen when you wrote it? A. We thought we might get some flack for it. I took it to the guys in the band, a couple of them are Catholic and I said "Do you have a problem with this?" and they said "No it's true." There'd been all these novels written and movies made about Jewish guilt and there was nothing about Catholic guilt which to me was the ying to the yang of Jewish guilt. Jewish guilt was all visceral and physical gut guilt. Catholic guilt is all incense and bats in the belfry and mental torment. The point of it wasn't anti-Catholic as much as it was pro-lust. In the end the girl kept her virginity...she remained chaste. When there was all this brouhaha, I was like "What's the problem?" But it did get banned. It got banned at Seton Hall University which was a Catholic college and I think the Archdiocese of St. Louis said "Don't buy this record." As soon as you tell kids they can't have something they want it. I wrote them a letter afterwards saying "Please ban my next record." |

Awesome song! As a fan from south of the Canadian border, I thank God for Rush! Some thoughts... The Suburbs are the "insulated border" between the city and the country "the far unlit unknown" "Opinions pre-decided" most suburbanites are generally against living in the city correct? However their children on the other hand "The misfit or dreamer" drift away from "the basement bars" (Suburban house party's, where only the "popular" or "in" crowd are invited) towards the city... cruising for the action is an escape. "just to feel the living night" To feel, is to feel welcome. The city is an escape from thier parents "mass production zone" & cliques "Be cool or be cast out" "Any escape might help to smooth The unattractive truth" "Some will sell their dreams for small desires Or lose the race to rats Get caught in ticking traps" Some of these kids will fall into Prostitution or drugs in the city. "And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight" I don't know? run away? maybe suicide? First time I read the lyrics to this song! Sometimes you never know "who" a song was written about, whether it was personal, or from a 3rd perspective. "But I knew life before I left my nursery Left alone with big fat Fanny She was such a naughty nanny Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me" This boy was was abused by his nanny, Fanny. "Oh, you gonna take me home tonight (please)" He likes aggressive type of ladies. Child hood experiences effect your adult impulses. "Oh, down beside your red firelight" A light he remembers from where he was taken as a child, A fancy red lamp, furnace or fireplace? "Take me to them dirty ladies every time" ladies, not girls here? Again from childhood experiences. "Now your mortgages and homes" Tough one... Who knows what this means? A message to the rich maybe? Or to his folks? maybe his folks hired the nanny to care for him because they were to busy, thus he was neglected by them. "I've got stiffness in your bones" ?? Dark stuff. He is saying Screw you? or he is related in some way? Or maybe, New English rock n Roll money meets Old English Monarchy money. This is definitely rage... coming out in Rock and Roll. Some good answers above. My two cents.. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For? 1st it is obvious that the soul represented in this song is someone who has faith (trusts) in Jesus Christ. "You carried the cross And my shame (sin) You know I believe it" So it is not a question of faith, but rather "what" he/she is "looking for" through their faith. "what" is a vast topic open to interpretation and I have one theory to share. If a church wanted to criticize Bono for writing these lyrics, would they also criticize Paul The Apostle for "looking" to obtain something? Is it possible in the book of Philippians Chapter 3 that Paul still had "not found" or "taken hold of" what he was looking for?" Read Paul's writing: Philippians 3:10 "that I may gain Christ, and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
