Dispatch – Past The Falls Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, and while it has obvious references to Jesus, I always preferred to look at it just in terms of the relationship between the boy and the girl. It seems to me like it's about a girl who has complete faith and belief in this friend/lover, and although he himself is insecure, her faith helps him to believe in himself.

The references to "magic in his hands" and the "water beneath his feet" both suggest that in the girl's eyes, this boy is so perfect as to be godlike. She believes in him absolutely, as worshippers believe in their god.

Maybe Dispatch is drawing a comparison between unwavering faith in God and the intense devotion that love inspires?

Iron & Wine – Fever Dream Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't think that this song is about a lost loved one... like jocoll and others have said, I think he's singing about a lover who is distant, inexpressive, hard to read.

I also interpret the chorus as being spoken (at least in the singer's mind) by the woman; it's what he sees in the "language on her face", and the "honest words she can't afford to say" (you'll notice that that line leads directly into the chorus, supporting that view). Also, a woman's voice joins Sam's during the chorus...

My take on "I want your flowers like babies want God's love" is that the singer is imagining the woman saying this to him. Babies, even if we suppose that they have original sin, are too young to understand the concept of God's love; therefore they cannot truly want it. So, the line means that the woman doesn't care about flowers (or, by association, the singer's affection); and judging from the rest of the song, this is just what the singer is afraid of. The comparison to babies could also suggest that she is even incapable of understanding the singer's feelings...

I'm not really sure what "as sure as tomorrow will come" is referring to. Maybe the singer is imagining two different versions of his lover's feelings--either she doesn't want his love, or she loves him as surely as tomorrow will come...?
