my interpretation of the song is that the fish eyed lense of tear stained eyes is that hes seeing a girl through pictures and hes almost crying over her and that hes realizing what he shared with her was amazing but hes stuck with another girl. flying high means that he thought he was living the good life until he realizes that hes miserable without her and then and then at the end of each day he retreats back to where he thinks about all this stuff over and over again each day. and negotiating the mine field is that hes trying to think of a way to get away from his miserable life just to go see this girl, such as give his girlfriend or wife a good reason why to go somewhere without her. beating the dogs and cheating the cold electronic eys are the people who would tell his wife or gf that they seen him with another woman. making it past the shotgun in the hall is making it past all of these obsticals. dialing the combo and getting the priest hole was him dialing her number because its been so long since hes called her that the number seems like a combination and she answer and comes out to see him. and once she does come out, he himself finds out what hes been missing out on, which is whats behind the wall. the kid who had the big hallucination was him earlier in his life imagining what it would be like to have her and that if he'll be alone from then on without her making love to girls in magazines. and he thinks that she would move on and find someone else to have faith in and be happy with. and after she has would anybody love him or is he just losing his mind? well the next verse is when hes actually with the girl and hes telling her how badly he hates everything withouth her and how insane hes become without her and would she still thin of him the same way as she did before. and thenit goes on to say that if he opened his heart to her and really told her how he felt about her waht would she do? would she just shoot him down and just go on to tell other people what happened between the two of them like she was actually "selling" the story? taking the children away would be her taking her heart and soul away from him completely and leaving him alone. simling in reassuarnce down the phone would be her telling him that hell be alright without her and just smiling about it even thought he feels like complete shit and is no laughing mood. would she completely just cut him off from her or would she take him into her arms because she really loves him? the next verse is about how he thought he should just flat out tell her how he felt about her and his life hes living with now and how he wants it to be with her. he thought he should just let it all shine on to her when he "tears the curtain down." but he still has someone on the other hand. his wife or girlfriend or whoever. so he holds the the blade to the "tie" of his current relationship with uneasy hands because hes too much of a coward to cut the "tie" so it ends to say that he never had the nerve to make "the final cut" so that is my interpretaion of this song. |

i love this song so much i listen to it over and over again when the times are bad because i will get by no matter how hard the situation is and i will survive all i have to do is ride it out me and my friend did karioke to this song at wild rivers october 2007 during the rubber duckie derby yeah this song is a great song |
