I think this one is about being attracted to men who exude macho, but are emotional infants. Sort of falling for the strong silent type. The problem is these guys lure women in, but have no real substance to their personality. They do not express emotions or deal with conflict in mature ways. Frankly, they do not have to since the pool of women drawn to them seems inexhaustable. The kind of guy who is cool in high school is not the guy who will remain faithfull and help raise kids later in life. Aimee does a very wonderful job of lyrically illustrating this simple point. She is a wonderful writer. |

The singer is clearly aware that she is attracted to men who are very unhealthy. It's almost like she is saying, the more I like them - the more screwed up they are. Clearly, she feels intense desire and longing for this new man. This can only portend trouble and the healthy part of her is all too aware of this dysfunctional pattern. My favorite part is that she goes so far as to say that if she still falls in love with him she wants him to kill her. I once met a girl at a dance who I was attracted to and asked a friend if she was singlle. He said, stay away from her because she is crazy. I said, oh did you date her? He said, no - but I'm attracted to her. I think this sums up Deathlly perfectly. Thanks for sharing your comments. |
