It came across like you were mad Holding in your breath with everything you had Until you face began to turn red (((Juding by the final line of the song it makes me think he's referring to jesus. The old reason about jesus if he existed is, either he was mad (crazy) or god does exist. His face began to turn red as he was being crucified he held his breath (stuck to his principles. The other meaning could be an argument with a close minded person who won't listen to reason.))) “This is why I turn and walk away from everything”, I need to feel it closer now …and I never thought it would be like this “Between the seal a church is revealed and I would rather be lonely along the way”. (((This also fits with the jesus thing, he was religious once and really respected jesus and gave up everything to believe by walking away from everything. He needed to feel the love and respect he had for jesus closer but then, only to find it was a lie and that the church was perpitrating it, and he felt it was wrong, so he decided he would rather be lonely than believe in this lie.))) Something set us off into the wrong direction but within this particular space, time Goes to waste. (((the people who wrote the bible are wasting our time because we're stuck in 1 routine and 1 idea that is false.))) And time starts to slow down and all of these patterns never change So slow down, because nobody looks at life the same (((The religious people never change, humanity doesn't change. But we need to really look at people's opinions and take them into account because everyone is different, other than people who are carbon copies to certain ideologies.))) And no one was like this ‘Til you came along And reset our dials wrong. (((Jesus came along and gave everyone principles to follow. He came along and his story is told, that's why I think it's about him, and he did change our dials. But it could mean the philosophers of the bible or god or people who try to make everyone think alike and be the same.))) The other interpreation I can think of would be politics. Parties try to impose their will onto people. Oh yeah another very valid meaning could be about his father. His father is religious and or really close minded and tries to exert his believes onto Anthony. But the concept of the song is someone trying to restrict Anthony (the people) from being who they are and try to impose their beliefs on them. |

Infinite silence flowing right in with the dawn This is wrong, this is wrong And I cannot sleep without the radio on (((Silence brings him back to his pain of his relationship that is crumbling or crumbled and he doesn't feel it's rigth that they haven't resolved this pain.))) And how could anyone You are in my dreams Half human, half machine (((he still sees the part of her that cared for him, but another part of her has grown distant and emotionless for him))) You with someone else that I have felt and seen I cannot rest, or my consciousness contest Looking right through the lens From winter brings the spring again (((He fears she'll find someone else or that she already has. But i think it's the former because the 2nd time he leaves this part out. So she probably hasn't found someone else, it's just a fear.))) And we fall asleep again with ties to mend So please let the cleaning begin with evolution (((They've left things unfinished he hopes those will be taken care of over time through his own evolution or through them sorting it out and getting this problem resolved.))) Hold my breath 'til communication is Only just a test Hold my breath 'til communication is Only just a test Hold my breath 'til communication is Only just a test (((The test is who will come to the other first to sort out this problem to get back together or to simply end the pain and suffering and be friends.))) |

I don't think all of the songs are about religion or anything, but this one is certainly about religion and or conformity of ones free will to a certain ideal. It starts out like a season in reverse A way to set your mind above and over words (((This encompasses thinking for yourself.))) (Like) attached means (your) identity Erases things so how can we record? (((When you buy into an ideology you are stuck into a routine where you don't change, you stay the same, and don't think for yourself. Essentially you're like a computer program that only does what it's told))) Distress call code-word is I wanna live (((I want to think for myself and do what I feel I should do))) He makes it up as it goes and it goes away To places he can only hide in other peoples minds He makes it up as it goes (((This one i'm not sure about but what it means to me is the feeling for searching for something goes away when he lives through other people. i.e. he gets happiness from others and can hide from his search for truth momentarily when distracted by company.))) Your rational mind's insane Taste the sound you make (((I think he's using a an anology between an lsd experience and people who believe in things that aren't real. When on lsd you can sometimes taste sounds or taste colors that type of thing and it seems real while on the drug. In the same way that religious people "feel" god through their emotions, so it seems real to them. A good quote from a radiohead song is, "just cause you feel it doesn't mean it's there." When the light from the sun (Or the story that never gets sold) Is your mother With an effortless smile you pervade to be (((Many civilizations worshiped the sun and for good reason because without it we wouldn't be here, here Anthony is saying the sun is our creator. Pervade means you become spread out, in other words once you except nature as the creator you become more well versed and more yourself because you experience and think about many different things as opposed to being stuck doing and thinking what others told you i.e. religions.))) Always in-between aisles (They said you must stare to see) An optimistic Daring me (((To sum this up, a religious person once said, "without god your beliefs will change like the wind." This refers to being in between aisles looking for the truth, the optimist (believer) telling him to look (stare) at god as the truth))) would you trade your soul for gold? (((Would you trade your individualism to be a carbon copy like religious people to go to heaven.))) |

Dance with me For I'll be leaving soon (((Meaning we all die eventually in the long run our time on earth is like a blip on the radar so we should enjoy it))) The afterbirth on the keypads overwhelm "Did he who make the lamb make thee"? Help me find its origin (((Search for meaning, why we exist))) In a cartoon house In a cartoon car (((We have created a lot of things that have no universal meaning, but only to us))) There are cities buried underneath our cities (((There have been a lot of people here before us, who are now gone))) "Let the people be free" it's all around us (((A theme for his plea to end human suffering somehow and or people being controlled))) Let the people see we so obviously had another hand And so separated How can I feel or act like I've made this when I so obviously had another hand. (((If you look around everything in your house was made by others with help from others, everything we know is connected to other people, he wonders how he can take credit for his music when the people before him who invented writing, music etc have a great hand in what he can now create))) So to sum it up, the opening lines are about enjoying our time here on earth, that's what everyone should try to do, is the main theme. Then to follow that he speaks more about all of humanity, how we're all connected. |

| Circa Survive – The Difference Between Medicine and Poison Is in the Dose (Album) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Also to expand upon that, the other meaning to this is, when we are forced or force ourselves to do something consistently and constantly we're a slave to something. For Anthony I think part of the meaning is like when he was with Saosin they had a lot of control over him and he was stuck there (they pull me in but accomplishments are transient) that's why he had to leave. The accomplishments with the type of work he was doing, wasn't what he wanted, it was only momentary happiness. So the "dose" was poison. I tihnk the dose is also poison in Circa Survive when he tries too hard with his writing etc, as mentioned with writers block. Sometimes less is more, so if he just relaxes and lets it flow it can be medicine. | |
| Circa Survive – The Difference Between Medicine and Poison Is in the Dose (Album) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Like someone else said if you watch the video you'll see what it's about. It's about your job becoming boring due to spending too much time on it. The video shows a lot of people doing different jobs and being robots. By accomplishments he means for a few seconds after you accomplish something you feel good about it, but then you have to repeat it over and over again just to feel good for a few days. So with his music he has to keep writing and only once his song is done does he feel good, and he has to start the process over and over again, most of the time he's under a lot of stress dealing with writers block etc. | |
| Circa Survive – The Greatest Lie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Quote by Kaddisfy: anthony was brought up in a catholic family, and i think the song's related to him losing faith in God. and the song title kinda gives it away this building smells so familiar - he's probably describing a church, how Catholics go every Sunday, so yeah it's pretty familiar and in a daydream i imagined my house when all my fathers sense of strength was lost - he's imagining what his life would be like without God it's all we have it's all we have so find me a place to begin - faith is all he has, he's losing it and he doesn't know what to believe and if i can get this feeling to end trembling idle hands holding me there - he wants to believe still, he doesn't have much faith left we laugh in the face of love cause nobodys really there nobody's real... - here he's saying God doesn't exist basically desire, i would try it either way - maybe he's talking about sex, or drugs, something he's been told was sinning by the church we believe in something invisible - it's hard to believe in something that you can't see this sense of smell that you used all your life well now you know you father lied - sense of smell refers to what you think, your opinions/beliefs, anthony's were probably shaped by his father. or he could be refering to father as in a priest, and how he thinks priests are lying about God? and i could never find my way without but you're already there - God helped him through hard times and we, we've come along way without without maps in our hands - the map could refer to the all the evidence today that God doesn't exist, and he's saying life was better when he believed in God Me: I think you have it about spot on. Most of the whole song touches upon losing god more than anything, so that's what is most likely. As for the part about sense of smell and his father lying. He's saying he has now sniffed out the truth and his father who told him god exists and brought him to church etc was lying (or wrong). Also the part at the start about his father having lost all his sense of strength could be referring to the fact that now he sees god as unreal, so his father relies on an imaginary strength, therefore his father has lost the power in Ant's eyes. Before his father had god on his side in his eyes, now he doesn't. Or it could be a reference to god or a priest but since he's back at his house I think it's his Dad. |

| Green Day – Longview Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm actually from Longview Washington, and my cousin who was a big Green day fan back in the mid 90's told me they named it after our town. And I've heard that a lot in other places as well, so I assume it's the truth. So yeah I can tell people my home town is the inspiration for this song LOL. Here's something taken from wikipedia. The title of the song "Longview" by the rock band Green Day was inspired by the city. The pop-punk trio had several friends in the area due to frequent performances in Portland, Oregon. Often they would meet other punk acts from Longview who would open their shows for them. According to one concert's press agent, Jim Baltutis, Green Day played a show at a Longview club, the Cafè Forum, in the summer of 1992, which later inspired the title of the song. |

| John Lennon – God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| some people have mentioned it was a big deal when John said he didn't believe in Beatles, I don't see how people can see it that way they just don't understand the meaning of the song. Also someone said they think John Lennon was at a low point in his life so he was renouncing all of his beliefs, well that would imply he believed in Hitler. His whole point to the song was you shouldn't believe in anything, you shouldn't worship or idolize anything because then you're just a robot, believing in whatever it or they believe. You need to figure out what you believe for yourself and that includes the Beatles. | |
| John Lennon – God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
God is a concept. By which we measure, Our pain, I'll say it again. God is a concept, By which we measure, Our pain I believe what John is referring to here is that when we pray we focus on our flaws. We ask for forgiveness for our faults and for our mistakes. And if you believe then it’s granted because what you think is reality. I don't believe in magic. I don't believe in I-ching. I don't believe in Bible. I don't believe in tarot. I don't believe in Hitler. I don't believe in Jesus. I don't believe in Kennedy. I don't believe in Buddha. I don't believe in Mantra. I don't believe in Gita. I don't believe in Yoga. I don't believe in kings. I don't believe in Elvis. I don't believe in Zimmerman. I don't believe in Beatles. I just believe in me. Yoko and me, And that's reality As John was growing up Elvis was his idol and the reason he was inspired to create music, despite this as he grew older and wiser he realized Elvis is just a man like any other man. The beatles were just a rock group, they don’t have all the answers, nothing has all the answers, we must find them within ourselves, we must believe in ourselves. Yoko was like an extension of himself so naturally he believes in her too. They’re the only truths to John. The dream is over. What can I say?. The dream is over. Yesterday. I was the Dreamweaver. But now I'm reborn. I was the Walrus. But now I'm John. And so dear friends. You'll just have to carry on. The dream is over John has reached a stage of his life where he expanded his mind, he no longer feels the need to be in a famous rock group or pretend to be a character in his music. He has seen reality and simply wants to be himself, he can no longer be what he was in the Beatles, for those who still long for him to be, they must simply move on. |

| The Beatles – Nowhere Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
He's a real nowhere Man, Sitting in his Nowhere Land, Making all his nowhere plans for nobody. A man is lost not knowing what direction he wants to take with his life. His world is his nowhere land and he feels he has nobody there for him, only his lonely self. Doesn't have a point of view, Knows not where he's going to, Isn't he a bit like you and me? Nowhere Man, please listen, You don't know what you're missing, Nowhere Man, the world is at your command. The man doesn’t know what he believes in, he feels he doesn’t know what right and wrong is anymore, doesn’t even know himself. John Lennon makes the connection between the nowhere man and himself, while including the listener. John urges the nowhere man to listen that there are things out there for him, and that you have the ability to mold your world as you wish. (Lead Guitar) He's as blind as he can be, Just sees what he wants to see, Nowhere Man can you see me at all? Nowhere Man, don't worry, Take your time, don't hurry, Leave it all till somebody else lends you a hand. The man is lying to himself about what is going on in the world, he ignores the harsh realities so he can cope with life easier. John wants to know if the man can see him to hear his message. John says for him to just take his time and eventually things will get better and somebody will help him out whether it’s a message or a love. Doesn't have a point of view, Knows not where he's going to, Isn't he a bit like you and me? Nowhere Man, please listen, You don't know what you're missing, Nowhere Man, the world is at your command. He's a real Nowhere Man, Sitting in his Nowhere Land, Making all his nowhere plans for nobody. Making all his nowhere plans for nobody. Making all his nowhere plans for nobody. As if to represent time he says this phrase 3 times to represent how the man hasn’t been able to change. |
