| Bif Naked – Lucky Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| This is one of the most beautiful ballads, "Never pay the reaper with love only". It could have multiple meanings but a strong theme of overcoming and nostalgia for a lost love (whether that be through a break up or a death). Just a beautiful song. | |
| Otep – Home Grown Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree that this song is about an abusive home situation, probably the man of the house abusing the wife and children- "Father was Adronicus" from the P.O.V. of the wife "Loving you is nothing new". "If you touch us again I will fucking kill you!", is my favorite part,if anyone has been in an abusive situation (as a spouse or child in the home), you can relate to this. However that line is my favorite because the speaker goes from being the victim and feeling both helpless and responsible "it's all my fault" to putting the blame with the truly responsible party "it's all your fault", and standing up for themselves. Great song, one of the reasons why I love Otep. | |
| Bikini Kill – Reject All American Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this is about rejecting the all-american type of lifestyle, which is represented by this boy. He just plays by the rules (if you work hard, you'll succeed). But all you really get is a starring role on "Nothing Incorporated" which just means a totally boring type of life. This dude obviously has an inflated ego, possibly from getting praise for doing what he's told. "Regimented, Designated, Mass Acceptance, Over Rated", refers to how most people do not question the "All-American Lifestyle", they just follow someone else's dreams. Lip synch, just meaning totally soulless, not being authentic. "Apology, Salutation, Teen Anthem, Obligation" is probably his boring style of rock music delivered half-heartedly or just cliché styled. The definition of mausoleum means "a burial place for the bodies or remains of many individuals". I think the mausoleum holds the individuality that gets killed with the acceptance of popular culture. This song calls for a rejection of that all-american way of life. I think the slogan "Reject All-American" can be compared to "Kill Whitey". REJECT ALL-AMERICAN! |

| Bikini Kill – Hamster Baby Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is playfully making fun of the press (journalist Everett True), and also making fun of the idea that they can't do things (put in the tape deck, carry the bass amp, buy a van) without help. I think it's about the d.i.y. ethic vs. using outside help especially through the media attention you get with increased fame. | |
| Bikini Kill – Star Bellied Boy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
She thinks "star-bellied boy" is different, but he just wants one thing from her- "why won't you fuck me, do me do me do me, I'll be your best friend". Maybe she gives in, but it is obviously not a satisfying experience. I think that it's talking about once you are from an abusive past, touch can also upset you (why do I cry every time that I come?), especially if it's in this type of situation where the person only wants sex from you, and does not treat you as a whole person. With the lyric "I only wanted to believe we are all free" maybe she wants to give into this idea of free love, of openess, which obviously benefits the guy by giving him sex, but does not benefit her, because he just treats her as an object. |

| Bikini Kill – Tell Me So Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
For the first part of this song I have in my mind the image of this therapist or something, who is just writing their impressions of what she says (you could read it back to me, maybe you could hurt me). Or just someone analysing you- how you feel, what you think, and using it against you to hurt you (i.e. you're fucked up, or you're like this because of something traumatic that happened to you, etc.). Someone thinking they know you, because they know a few personal things, or judging you when they don't even know you, which can be hurtful. Maybe even believing unsubstantiated rumors about you. I think it's about looking for validation through (possibly male) approval. "If you are gonna look at me I am gonna get a prize" Either that or just wanting compensation for having guys looking at you with the "male gaze". Perhaps it is about the male voyeurism females feel subjected to- such as a shower stall or bathroom that you can see into? Which is a lot of movies, tv shows, etc., that makes you feel dirty. With the different parts of the song put together, I get the feeling it's about being stalked- someone writing about you, watching you, etc., perhaps someone having a superficial crush on you from afar and stalking you in a creepy way. |

| Bikini Kill – Resist Psychic Death Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is about living in a world you feel absolutely in conflict with (your world, not ours, your world, not mine). The mainstream culture feeds you certain images and ideas (a way of being, a way of thinking, etc.) which are not representative of you, and only cater to "one particular point of view" (as mentioned in another Bikini Kill song). In this way dominant culture kills the "other" or minority. This song is about "sticking it to the man" and resisting the killing of yourself, and your integrity, for the sake of conformity. It's about not letting your oppressors get you down, and still "fighting the good fight", despite a culture or person who makes you feel like shit, resisting the so-called "psychic death". |

| The Germs – Now I Hear The Laughter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I have no idea what this is about, the one theory I have is with lyrics like "game plan, plotted", he had a five year plan I believe of making music, then killing himself so perhaps that's what it's about. | |
| The Germs – Richie Dagger's Crime Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me Ritchie Dagger is about homosexuality. "His idea of fun was society's grudge." "He sits in the corner a child despised"- I've noticed how some parents freak out if their child displays homosexual behavior, like holding hands with or kissing their same sex friend (early age). In western culture, you learn from a young age, homosexuality is not socially accepted. When a child displays anti-social behavior (different from what the mainstream society portrays as okay), a parent will often abandon their children, depending on what type of parent they are and their own values of course, "a child despised" obviously means this kid was an outcast, oh he's probably a bit older (puberty/sexual maturity) since he's "like a child despised" not literally a child. "Suck me in and spit me out, devour me in haste" Since the Germs supposedly made themselves sort of cult-like following- We lead the science All social convicts (misfits, deviants) follow the rhymes, accept your cure (some people see homosexuality as a disease) I believe there are multiple versions of this song with different lyrics, one version has the lyrics: he could set your mind ablaze with sparkling eyes and visionary case he stood like a remnant from an outbreak past wore something in his ear and boy was he a sass sounds like Darby admired him :) , obviously something in his ear- back in the day right ear earring= gay, and he was a sass, standing up for himself I guess or just not being pushed around Could be autobiographical or mix (some about himself, some about somebody else) |
