| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I've always believed this to be about the Chateau Marmont in LA. There have been so many bad things happen to their customers/visitors - it's like the last line "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave." Just my opinion =) | |
| Harry Chapin – Taxi Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This has got to be my favorite Harry Chapin song. I suppose people would say it is about a person's very first love and how life tears them apart, though I also can see it as a song about life, period. You set out to become someone/something but life has other plans for you. Sue wanted to be an actress but ended up marrying a rich man, putting on a happy face for the public but actually being sad, lonely and unloved; Harry wanted to be a pilot but ended up a taxi driver with a drug habit. | |
| Alan Jackson – Midnight in Montgomery Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I once heard that during the video shoot was an experience Alan Jackson would never forget. The equipment - lights, camera, etc - would keep malfunctioning. AJ and the film crew believed there was a "presence" at the grave during filming, and a lot of the film turned out to be warped (most of it during shots of Hank's grave; it showed spectres, black blots, etc.) possibly proving they were correct. If I remember correctly, they had to go back and do a re-shoot but didn't encounter anymore problems. | |
| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Basically the song is asking: is war worth the destruction not only we place on the enemy but ourselves? "Do you know what's worth fighting for/When it's not worth dying for?/Does it take your breath away/And you feel yourself suffocating?/Does the pain weigh out the pride?/And you look for a place to hide?/Did someone break your heart inside?/You're in ruins" War. Is freedom, etc truly worth dying for - is it worth the destruction soldiers bring to their lives and the lives of others? When a solider comes back, they are changed; they've witnessed life leaving people's eyes, seen families torn apart, the destruction of bombs. So... "When you're at the end of the road/And you lost all sense of control/And your thoughts have taken their toll/When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul/Your faith walks on broken glass/And the hangover doesn't pass/Nothing's ever built to last/You're in ruins Did you try to live on your own/When you burned down the house and home?/Did you stand too close to the fire?/Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone When it's time to live and let die/And you can't get another try/Something inside this heart has died/You're in ruins" The remaining verses discuss more about the destruction war takes only this time it's back home. Soldiers suffering from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), getting lost in booze and drugs, destroying their own home; their family and friends with their behavior. War doesn't end on the battlefield - it comes back with the soldier and continues on. My interpretation of the chorus: "One, 21 guns/Lay down your arms/Give up the fight/One, 21 guns/Throw up your arms into the sky/You and I" "One" being the loss of a life; "21 Guns" being the 21-gun salute given to soldiers. Lay down your arms, your guns. Give up war, the destruction and the loss of lives. The only way to do it is for both sides to throw up their arms and say "Enough!" |

| Billy Currington – Walk A Little Straighter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Being a child who was abused by a parent (for me it was my mother) I can somewhat relate to the song. I have relatives who were - and some still are - alcoholics. It's a horrible disease and is even more horrible when children are involved in such an environment. When Billy was 12-years-old he wrote the chorus of this song because he was dealing with an abusive, alcoholic (step)father, Larry Currington (his mother married arryn when Billy was 1 1/2; Larry is no deceased). To this day he is having to deal with the affects of growing up in such an environment - such as a short temper - and is going through therapy to work through those issues. |

| Reba McEntire – The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Believe it or not, this song was originally sung by Vicky Lawrence (costar of 'The Carol Burnett Show'). Another of my top 5 favorite Reba songs... love the song AND video. |

| Reba McEntire – If I Had Only Known Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| One of my top 5 favorite Reba McEntire songs. Truly powerful - a song everyone can identify with. If only we knew how long we had left on this planet with those we love - how we'd take more time to enjoy them, cherish the moments we spend with them, and take to simply appreciate their presence in our lives. | |
| Keith Whitley – Tell Lorrie I Love Her Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This demo was recorded at Keith's home in 1987 on a tape recorder; you can hear a television playing in the background during the song. In her book about their relationship (titled "Forever Yours, Faithfully") his widow, Lorrie Morgan, says she listened to the song repeatedly on the way to his funeral. |

| Vince Gill – Go Rest High On That Mountain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The song began as a tribute to Vince's friend, Keith Whitley who died of alcoholism but he could not finish it. When his brother, Bob, committed suicide a few years later, he finished it. It is a tribute to both Keith and Bob. The lines "You weren't afraid to face the devil, You were no stranger to the rain" reference Keith's song, "I'm No Stranger to the Rain." |
