this song is amazing. i liked the song for a while, but seeing it live (whilst pretty high) really made me take notice. i love how it's left so open yet each word is so poignant. really nice imagery as well, especially at the end where he describes the scene as if viewing a film. with regards to what it means, it seems at the beginning that he feels like his life has no meaning and he hates himself. he's struggling to get inspiration, to find his place - "i know i can be all those hateful things and then i hate myself for realising that", "[ideas] appear but then run off like rain on the windshield". however, he then meets someone who gives his life purpose, he becomes infatuated with her and the best part of the song is dedicated to her and her place in his head and hear - "i can fix my mind on your yes and your no". the end confuses me a bit. there's an air of cynicism and there's obviously something unsaid. did she reject him? did she die? anyway, that's how i look at the song, but that's just me. as i said it's quite open to infer your own meaning. maybe i'm over-analysing it, maybe it's just words, maybe we should just take it for what it is... a fucking good song. |

this song is amazing. when it was first released, my dad was working long hours at work and dedicated it over the radio to my mum. they split up last year, and since then i haven't been able to listen to it. i've recently discovered it after splitting up with someone who i cared for more than she'll ever know... i can relate to this song so much. you try your hardest to move on, you pretend to not miss her because you don't want to miss her... but you know deep down, she's all you think about. |
