Weezer – My Name Is Jonas Lyrics 17 years ago
seems to be about drugs, and better, cleaner days as a kid.

1st stanza (/group, whatever): a guy greeting someone more optimistic than himself. ("... but this is how we feel")

2nd- tales of better days

3rd- drugs, sounds like

4th- "fresh out of batteries", "still makin' noise", makes me think, a guy who's out of hopes and dreams (the toys), but still trucks on 'cause there's nothing left to do

5th- don't know what to make of it; but doesn't seem very symbolic.

Elliott Smith – Looking Over My Shoulder Lyrics 17 years ago
I've never heard the term "sonic fuck you" before, and most of the time I've heard it as "sonnet". It's always made sense to me that he was talking about some kind of pseudo-form of poetry, or something. (sonnet: fuck you)
But if "sonic fuck you" is indeed a style of 'song' in which he wrote, I guess that I could accept that. .... The last syllable of the word is just too vague to make it out for certain.
But it's definitely not "song", LOL. Ist of all, there's no "ng" sound; secondly, "make another song" is just too clumsy for something that Elliott would put down.

*AHEM* I really have no opinion on the song.... I just wanted to debate over a single word or two while the discussion was up. ^___^

Elliott Smith – Fear City Lyrics 18 years ago
wow, I'm surprised that there's hardly a comment on this.... I was actually going to this page to see if I could get a helping hand in understanding this song myself. ^__^
"flat, tired remarks," though, I love it.
"uncarbonated and exhausted", or "blown out"? lol.
Oh wail. I'll have to figure it out later.
Seems to me, though, that he wanted to break down mental barriers, and build some new ones. like rollercoastersonja said, about shedding some sad skin.

Elliott Smith – Stupidity Tries Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that this song covers a lot o situations, metaphorically. I don't really feel the need to comment on it, because it's just my favorite Elliott Smith song (period). But at the same time, I feel like I should say something because of that.
And I agree with what most people said; it's a view of life from the optimistic yet sober guy, who just tries to do what he thinks is right and knows that the futility of the effort sometimes may even make it stupid.
-Like a boyfriend (or ex) who's too emotional, or a Jehovah's witness (getting rejected at every door), maybe. ^_^

Elliott Smith – No Name #2 Lyrics 18 years ago
I've got to agree with Badge; this song could refer to a number of small, distinct situations.
What I've personally got going on in my mind is that there's this guy who's too closed up in himself, too depressed, to take normal invitations of friendship from people and socialize with them. He picks up the phone with "concrete hands"- hands that are afraid to move- and receives an invitation to come out of his hovel; except he's too afraid of the consequences and too distrustful to follow through on this.
"a couple of words that hid a crime" could simply be deception. words that he doesn't trust.

Upon reading the other comments, I think it's probably just about his girlfriend breaking up with him.
But, I wanted to write that down because it's the first thing that came to my mind upon hearing the song. go figure.
