Okkervil River – A Girl In Port Lyrics 16 years ago
to me, it's about a man at sea, for war or whatever reason. he has a girlfriend, or wife or whatever back home, but then he finds a girl who he feels is "better" than the girl at home. he struggles with holding back from the new girl. he wants to give in so badly, but he doesn't for the sake of not hurting the girl in port. just because it's the right thing to do.

Anyone else notice that all the closing songs from each volume have the same melody at the end?

Worse to the general listener, better to the listeners who recognize real talent. Seriously, this is so much better than Fever.

British Sea Power – No Lucifer Lyrics 17 years ago
A Carlton corsair
The Raleigh twenty, yeah
A little lost roe deer
The wind in your hair
No Lucifer

The "Carlton Corsair" is a single-speed road bicycle, now called the MacBike.

"The Raleigh Twenty" was a folding bicycle made in the 1970's.

The "roe deer" is just a species of deer.

The wind in your hair. No Lucifer.

I think it is just based on Andy and the other meanings just spawned from it.

I love the part where it muffles out then comes back to life again.

Awesomality...

I somewhat agree with your theory, but I think Dustin is using Atlantis as a metaphor for the Garden of Eden. Which is quite brilliant if you ask me.

The definition of rhetoric is "using language to please or persuade". Dustin is saying that there are so many lies going on and it seems to make everyone happy. He is asking, "was there ever a time where people believed what was true and not what they wanted to believe?"

"We'd rather close our eyes;
Sing soothing lullabies"

I love the way they use the piano from The Pelican near the end of the song.

Just like in The Shins' Wincing the Night Away, the fourth track of the album is the only one that doesn't fit the theme of the rest of the songs.
