HIM – Circle of Fear Lyrics 17 years ago
This song really made me think, because recently there's a girl who I really like, and i'd been seeing her, but when i told her these things, she told me that she was scared that a relationship would end up a disaster and she didn't want to lose me, then she said that I could do way better than her, and I was so surprised because I thought I was the one with problems, and I wasn't, so I think this was a good take home message to listen and understand rather than push your own negative feelings onto her, because things will never work between you if you do

In Flames – Abnegation Lyrics 18 years ago
I think there's a religious element here too, it launches some criticisms about blind faith even though we destroy ourselves and our planet... Even more specifically, "Abnegation" means denial or rejection of a religious doctrine

In Flames – Artifacts Of The Black Rain Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song revolves around a misanthropic character feeling alone and unreal in the world that he lives in, full of liars and sheep.
I'm not sure but perhaps the last verse indicates that he dies or something? It sounds like he gets buried or something

Nine Inch Nails – Ruiner Lyrics 18 years ago
The sexual symbolism is about more than simple sexual activity, it represents domination, power and infringement upon personal liberty. This is a song of pure disgust at the one dominating (it could be a religion, a political leader, just someone he knows, or even particular attributes he hates about himself). It's partly also about feeling isolated from the group who are acting like robots and kissing the ruiner's arse, but being defiant too, and proud that he can see the truth, but he is also depressed deep down about how helpless his position is

In Flames – Like You Better Dead Lyrics 18 years ago
i reckon this song is about someone who the author was close to but the fact that they are so cold and hurt him so much makes him wish that they didn't exist at all, he would rather like to teach them a lesson and have them understand what they are doing to him and themself. Ironically, despite thinking that they are fine and the better one in the situation, the author points out that they are the deficient one (vision may be in colour - look all pale)
Although he is attached to this person in a way, he knows that he must break away or he will waste away too, although he knows that the concept of facing a tomorrow without them is still going to be tough. It would have been easier had they never met

Sirenia – Lithium And A Lover Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the meaning of this song is about someone who is so hurt inside emotionally that they are in constant pain and torment from the thoughts inside that hurt them. The person wants something that will stop his mania and ease the pain. Lithium would have the effect of stabilising him and keeping him calm, while the soothing touch of someone who loves him gives temporary release from pain, and he can forget his problems, just for a while. The lithium and a lover are metaphorically the same thing, and both act to return him to a stable state of mind, as his mind is playing havoc with him currently

In Flames – Dead Alone Lyrics 18 years ago
I believe that this song is about the author feeling dead inside and isolated, yet the world outside is so bad that he may not want to let anyone in anyway, as they are "creeps infected by control". He once may have cared or believed in what has hurt him, but it has disintegrated and he is now numb inside, but in being dead inside, he finds a strange sense of peace and serenity, from being released of the cares of the world. His message to whoever hurt him is that there is no point bothering to try and fix him, the separation and lack of understanding runs too deep

In Flames – System Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't particularly think that this song specifically is meant for people in a relationship, as the whole of the reroute album rarely focuses on anything to do with love, it is more about philosophy and personal expectations

To me, this song seems more of a message to someone the author is incredibly frustrated with, because he feels that they do not care about him any more when they once did, and he wants to break off from them because he perceives that his time and effort (or, his life rather) is wasted on trying to reach out to them, as they "throw (his) thoughts against the wall", and he does not like what this person has become, stating "your world does not attract me" further highlighting a separation between them, so severe that it is a separation of words. He ultimately feels that he might as well be dead as far as the other person is concerned, as they see him "hanging by the end of the rope" but do nothing, Ironically he urges "these words" not to tear the person down, as if he is hurting them rather than the other way round, but ultimately the person lacks sympathy

This song means something to me as I have been in situations where communication has broken down with a person who used to be very close to me, eventually you feel invisible and ignored, and that's the point where one feels they need to make a new start
