i interpret it in a lot of different ways. first off, i think she is a ghost who follows him because when she was alive they were together. he is searching for her, not knowing that she is already dead, searching for him. when they come to the sea, he can finally see the truth. that she is dead. thats why he cries. because he can see it. when she looks at the ocean, she looks as if she must return to it.
but i really do think she does represent death who is chasing him as it is chasing all of us. the look on his face when he cries is the look of one who has lost all hope. |

i know exactly what he is talking about. i've always looked at any religion as a cage. because once you climb into it and believe, you are no longer free to be open to everything. you've chosen a belief and thats where you'll stay. this is a beautiful song but he is really admitting that he is not free, ignorant, and locked in a cage-and that he doesn't care and will do anything to stay there. me personally... i might clean my cage, and the cages of others, but i carry the key to go in and come out. there is no higher value to me in life than freedom... god is not what we think. god doesn't point in one direction, but in all directions because god is the source of everything, it is a oneness. and it is known through love-the highest truth in this universe. remember... love is a oneness. how can you truly love someone when you are locked in a cage and they are locked in theirs? you cannot even touch each other. their will only be intellectual listening and intellectual listening is a kind of deafness. i may speak to you and you will mentally process my words, but because you are locked in a cage, and your walls are up, i have been left behind. you will only intellectually hear my words, then you will be stuck to your own opinion, your own opinion, your own cage. opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and everyone has a cage with walls all around. its up to us to make a door to freedom and go through it. but even with those walls up, i can still see a soul for who he is. its beautiful. |

This is a very sad song. Even the melody gives me a vibe of what the song means. The song is basically about something happening around you or to you that you know is wrong but theres nothing you can do about it. The lyrics verify this. "Your using inequity to achieve vanity, but the goodness of jah jah i endure it forever." "Who-so-ever diggith a pit, will fall in it". He's basically saying yeah theres nothing we can do, but karma will get you. I think hes saying, "fuck the government". He says the government is a big tree and the people are a small axe that will cut them down, remove them from power. |
