To me, this song is about a war. "Crowded streets are cleared away One by one" - There's a war going on in a country, and the invaders are overtaking city by city. "Hollow heroes separate As they run" - The people of that country try to stand and fight, but they eventually get over run and must retreat. You're so cold, Keep your hand in mine - There are two people trapped in the crossfire, and one of them was shot or has been wounded. Wise men wonder while strong men die - The wise men of the war ponder what to do, while the strong fighters hold back the attackers. Show me how it ends, it's alright Show me how defenseless you really are Satisfied and empty inside That's alright Lets give this another try - Someone has been captured by the enemy and they don't want to be killed so they surrender, but the capturer doesn't trust them.
