it is sad that they're breaking up. =[ excellent band. sooo...anybody know what the song's about? it seems to be full of contradictions. like: And what makes it alright Doesn't make it all better What slips through our hands, We keep i'm confused as to the meaning, though. any thoughts? |

| Underoath – When The Sun Sleeps Lyrics | 18 years ago |

^^now with that said, i should probably post what i think it means. it's pretty basic if you really read the lyrics. it's about a relationship that should have ended, but didn't. this may be from personal experience, but i think he's saying (whoever's perspective this was written from) that he doesn't love her anymore (or never did) but was too scared to end their relationship because he likes having someone who cares about him and he likes the physical part of the relationship. (not sex, i'm talking about cuddling and stuff) he's saying that now he knows he has to take the plunge and end it: "just for tonight, the sun still sleeps and when she wakes you'll be a memory" but he's hopeful that maybe they'll fall in love again or they'll each find someone else that they love: "maybe love will find us again for there is always tomorrow" pretty simple. but that's just my opinion. |

| Kids in the Way – Last Day Of 1888 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Interview With Kids In The Way: JFH: Can you tell us the story behind the song "Last Day of 1888?" Dave: Sure, "The Last Day of 1888" is a song about misjudgement. It's about being stereotyped, or not even really stereotyped, but more of being mislabeled and misjudged. I wrote it simply because everybody gets midjudged at one point or another. And some people would look at people like us and people who are into music, from older generations, and not quite understand us. And they'll think that the style of music we play can't be good; can't have a positive message if it sounds the way it does. That's why we wrote this song. The song is inspired by the story surrounding Jack The Ripper. I sort of have a weird interest in things like that. I was reading a book about Jack The Ripper, and when I wrote this song, I just recalled this story of a man who they accused of being Jack The Ripper. He came from a family of mental instability and they thought that because his whole family was crazy and he kind of had a weird mental history, that he was for sure Jack The Ripper. So they pinned it on this man, and he ended up taking his own life simply because of all the pressure and everybody accusing him and wanting to arrest him. On the last day of 1888, December 31st, they found his body in the river and the suicide note explaining everything and they were like "Oh, well, Jack The Ripper killed himself so we don't have to worry about it anymore anyway." And then like two weeks later, more Jack The Ripper murders occured. To me it was a significant story of misjudgement and the ultimate consequences it can have on a certain person's life. |

| wow, this is awesome. i can't help but cringe at Aaron's singing, but i try to remember that he was only 14. but it's an amazing message and i think it shows the true purpose of the band. | |
| Underoath – A Moment Suspended in Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Straight from the band: If you go on the underOATH website, www.underoath777.com they have a journal where the band members get on a blog and Grant get's on and answers fan questions. somebody asked him what the new songs meant and he said that they would have to ask Spencer about most of them, because the only one he knew for sure was that "A Moment Suspended In Time" was about the end of the world. if you think about it like that, it does make sense. |

| Underoath – It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Dallas' wife did not die in a car crash. That's just rumors. They asked him to leave the band because he got way to worked up about some relationship troubles with his girlfriend and they were tired of hearing about it and asked him to leave so that he could get everything worked out with her. He did, and they got married not long after he left the band. They're still married and he's not bitter towards underOATH about the whole thing at all. | |
| Underoath – When The Sun Sleeps Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| yall, this song is not about Dallas' fiance dying in a car crash. go on youtube and google Dallas Taylor and watch the 4 part interview with him. when this album was written, he and his fiance had just broken up. then they got back together and broke up again right after TCOT and now they're married. she never died in a car accident! | |

i think whitecrayon16 is right. i've read an interview with them and they had said it was about an eating disorder. and it really makes sense if you read it like that. i think it's somebody talking to or about someone with an ED and realizing that they think differently than we do and he's not going to change her mind easily. i have two very close friends that are dangerously annorexic and so i know how it feels to try and talk to them and get turned away. these lyrics describe it perfectly. |

I think that Citystarz has the meaning right. Basically, it's about how he's telling this girl (or guy) that she's messing up her life and needs to get it straight. But he goes into the conversation knowing that he's probably going to lose her as a friend, but willing to sacrafice their friendship in the hopes of saving her soul. |

| Underoath – Sálmarnir Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's Psalm 50 being spoken in Icelandic (or Russian) by an old friend of Chris' (the keyboardist) and then Chris yelling the English version in the background. And to the person who said that we should make a big deal out of pot, since God made it....yes, he did make it. He made the marijuana plant to be used for medical purposes, not to be abused. He also made the sun because we need it to live....does that mean you should go touch it? |

| Underoath – You're Ever So Inviting Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think this song is about conforming. the people around him want him to conform to their morals and patterns of life, but as a Christian, he knows he can't. he doesn't want to. "To fit inside your mold would be to sell myself short" shows that he realizes that this world has nothing to offer him. "This ground we tread upon is now filling up to our necks. We turn the pages left to right, we see everything" shows that the world around us is trying to consume us, but if we step back and look at it from a distance, we can see the immorality. "failure leaves such a bitter taste in their mouth" shows that he believes that if he decides not to conform, then people will see him from a different light and realized they failed. "Oh, it's getting longer, to see it through their eyes would bring me so much closer. You can do this night after night Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth" shows that sometimes he slips up and wants to participate in the world, saying that seeing it through their eyes would help him, but then he realizes that he messed up and can taste his own failure. "Taste and see, I swear I know what's good Be still and know that they won't lie to you every single time you're facing lies" shows that he's trying to convince the world that he knows something better than the sin their living in. "I know why you never take your eyes off of me I've used my lungs for everything but breathing" shows that he realizes that the world sees him as different. He's spent his life screaming for them to listen to him, instead of participating in their sin...which they would consider to be living or "breathing". that's basically what i got out of it. i might be completely wrong, but that's how i see it and it's an encouraging song to me to know that we, as Christians, don't have to conform to the world. |

Amazing song. Amazing band. There was some serious moshing going on during this song at Warped Tour 07. If you weren't there, you should have been. Not to be a pain, but the lyrics are wrong. It's not "The luck is like my darkest hour", it's "The longest night, my darkest hour" |

Aaron Gillespie is a truly amazing musician and vocalist. I am really excited that he came out with his own album. And by the way, Jesus Freak 101: I never thought of the lyrics that way, but it could very well be a song about personal salvation. And even if it isn't, it's still an awesome way to think about it. |

| Underoath – A Boy Brushed Red ... Living In Black And White Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is about a boy and a girl who gives in to what they want and sleep together. They realize that it was wrong and that their virginity is something that they will never get back. The girl regrets it, but the line "Slit wristless, sleeping with the girl next door, I always knew you were such a sucker for her" shows that the boy has no regrets (slit wristless) and continues in his sin. When you see them in concert, Spencer (the lead singer) opens the song by saying "This is for anyone who has ever given in to something they knew was wrong". | |
| Underoath – It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Ok, yall are officially insane. Just so you know, UnderOath is a CHRISTIAN BAND!!! I mean, come on! He purposely killed his girlfriend in a car crash to send her to God? What the heck? That's just sick and perverted. You're thinking about it too deep. Just read the lyrics. It's deffiniteley about somebody remembering a car crash that happened. Some of you have said that it was Dallas and his girlfriend, and that may very well be true. I don't know. But I do know that it has nothing to do with murder or suicide. | |
| Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| oh, i didn't see your post, brookey. i wasn't arguing with you. it very well may have been Krystal. unfortunately, i've never seen them in concert. | |
| Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Ok, I read an interview with the band, and Andrew (the lead singer) said that this song is about a girl that he dated named Katherine, hence the "k" in Konstantine. He cheated on her and is now realizing that she was everthing to him and he will never get her back. | |
