The "jibberish" is "PCP Poetry" by Bryan Lewis Saunders. You can listen to the full version here: http://www.myspace.com/mrbrainsander He's naming off a bunch of obscure names for drugs, some of them known, but most of them I'll admit to have looked up on urbandictionary.com. Like I said earlier, I don't think the song has direct relevance to drugs necessarily, but I think the poetry adds to the metaphor, and more than anything, the way he begins slowly and speeds up alphabetically until the end provides a good intro and a really powerful outro. |

I honestly think you're completely off. In an interview Sage mentions something along the lines of sometimes having to get your hands dirty in order to be able to have relations with a person. And in the cd booklet he has a quote about not being able to threaten an alcoholic who has already lost it all. So in other words, I think this song is about having to stoop down to a friend/family member's level in order to be able to see them because they have gotten so caught up in what they do that they have forgotten about you/don't give a fuck anymore. In this case, Sage talks about "getting" in to rehab to see some kind of drug addicted friend. I think this song is possibly directed to his uncle or whoever it is he's talking about in "Crack Pipes" considering crack pipes has a 12 steps reference (AA's program) and this song has a 13 steps reference (possibly some kind of mockery?). And while this song could be a direct reference, I think it's obviously also metaphorical to any mirrored case considering I don't think Sage ever went to rehab (he's a drugless vegetarian). As for religion, I don't think Sage has many good things to say about religion. I think he's lost complete touch with Christianity. It seems like he's mocking it in this song talking about how you can't cure an addict with god ("You cant match magic with an addict thats got a mapping compass"). And at his show a few years ago, he brought along Jared Paul who's about the most atheistic person I've ever met (listen to "Jesus in a Bowl of Germs"). I mean for Christ's sake (no pun intended), Sage says "God's a bitch" in A Healthy Distrust. Either way, amazingly powerful song which perfectly intertwines "PCP Poetry." I think after a few listens, I found this song even more powerful than "Crack Pipes." |
