the lyrics made me think for a while - they sound fancy and are a pleasure to sing along to but i'm not sure if i've worked them out yet. i think these are confessions of a 40-something woman who simply realizes her age('your youth is gone') but wraps this with bizarre occurrences (which may also suggest she's lost her mind apart from fainting at the wedding). she fails to receive facts as they are, instead refers to weird symbols and complicated explanations of events (like egyptian hieroglyph themselves). |

| at first i thought it's just thinking up weird excuses for not keeping in touch but come to think of it.. | |

| i read that Natasha said in an interview that a dream about a horse inspired her to pick up music. i guess this song might directly refer to that dream - 'you're the chosen one, there's no turning back' - that might've been the direct message then. | |

at first i thought it's about some girl who became indifferent [They cut out her heart], stopped believing in God [she decided He never came at all] and the latter decision sort of took the prespective of afterlife away from her. but i don't understand why does Natasha want to be like her.. how can she adopt Sarah's heart if it's not there? maybe cutting it out isn't a symbol here - stupid idea but maybe Natasha is to take care of it in some way.. or has had it transplanted.. erm :] 'She gave me her clothes and told me take her place' not only does the narrator want to be like Sarah but Sarah herself orders her to - maybe because she knows she's going away (dying?). and the latest idea - maybe Sarah herself i just a symbol of some attitude. picking it up seems cool for Natasha so she creates a real person whose life would sort of explain that attitude. hm, still, confusing. |

my first thought was that it's a drugged image of the purgatory - souls are gathered there to suffer for their sins until the end of the world - then they'll all go to heaven ["God will come and wash away"]. Tattos and cocaine are certainly symbols of sin. But the rest isn't as clear - some mixed up images, i thought maybe visions of heaven or the end of the world but guess they're just random delusions. some do seem more symbolic than others [Mozart's requiem - powerful music, linked with death].. oh, and isn't it: And all of the aborted babies Will turn into little *bambies*? |

besides it's not only the major Reason Why that the scientist is looking for - ha can't also answer the 'why?' concerning basic biological processes. hm, personally i think science can only answer the question 'how'. what i like is how he explains human agression through comparing it with the supposed one of single cells as well as malcontence [which is sort of an psychological attitude] with the osmosis mechanism [soaks into you if you're not malcontent yourself]. but i don't really understand the key line: "what's mistaken for closeness is just a case of mitosis" - does he mean closeness between people? mitosis just copies the cells of a single organism, has nothing to do with others.. ?? anyways, love this song |

"You look good in that sweater And that aluminum crutch" because of these lines i was always thinking it's about some rather unattractive girl or handicapped whick would give the rest of the song an ironic feel as it's so filled with erotism.. i'm not sure about the bit about the lamp - guess singing verses like this is typical for gospel choirs (then lamp symbolises faith) and featuring one in the song required such references?:) |
