| Frightened Rabbit – Acts of Man Lyrics | 11 years ago |

@[modalverb:872] I take this song as VERY cynical, meaning there are no heroes in this world. It's not that all men are date rapists, but some are, and many more defend them. "Let's all crowd around the cowering body/Throw stocky fingers, bricks and stones" is about our tendency to pick one those weaker than us. "One man tears into another/Hides a coward's heart in a lion's chest" is similar; it criticizes the way in which we berate others in order to hide our emotions - the (ridiculous) notion that being sensitive is "unmanly". "I am the amateur pornographer/Unpleasant publisher by hand" - Could be video, or just voyeuristic photos, or just reblogging dirty pictures on Tumblr. "I have never wanted more to be your man/And build a house around you" is clearly meant as a positive (as much as there is in this song). He's hopeful in this final verse. All is not lost. We're shitty and terrible, but some do try. |

| Pearl Jam – Sirens Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Beautiful song. I married my gf recently, and it was the final song of the night. I'm always wary of Pearl Jam for romantic settings, as some songs that sound pretty can be very dark, but I think this song was perfect. To me, it's about holding our loved ones close in this terrifying world, and gaining strength and grace from the love that you both share. On top of that, I absolutely LOVE the line, "I study your face, the fear goes away..." because my wife gives me courage to do things I didn't think I could do. Sometimes that is simply going on living. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – The Twist Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"The twist is that you're just like me" gives the song a more hopeful feel, but I don't think that's supposed to be the point. I'm pretty sure "Twist as if you're just like me" is right - the song is all about the intense longing for companionship, yearning for someone who doesn't want you, but might be willing to pretend to for a while. Personally, I like the idea that it might be "The twist is that you're just like me." It's still kind of a sad song, but in a different way. It's sort of double unrequited love/desire. Both the uy and the girl want to be loved, but not necessarily by each other. However, they are together at the moment, so why not "twist" for a while. And, the use of a alternative meaning of the word "twist" is neat, too. I still think the lyric is correct as written above, though it is tough to make out when listening. |

| Frightened Rabbit – Poke Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's more about a relationship that is in its final stages, but neither partner wants to admit that it's over. "Why won't our love keel over as it chokes on a bone?/We can mourn its passing and then bury it in snow." The relationship is over, it just won't die completely so that they can go their separate ways. | |

| Also, "Clock is calling backwards" should be "Clock is counting backwards". | |
