This song, like many other Lennon songs, is a war protest. The "working class hero" is a person given delousions of grandeour by the idea of going to war and 'serving his country', but he soon discovers that to become this hero he has to sacrifice his humanity, becoming essentially a tool used for killing. Rather than a hero, he is now nothing but a killer. It's called Cruel Irony |
