I just want to say, as a writer and lyricist myself. That there is no clearcut definition for what this song means. It's all opinion drawing from your own past experiences. It just irritates me when someone says that their idea of the song is "correct". That having been said.. This song is just haunting, depressing, and i'll agree with the people above who said the ending is epic. To me, this song is about realizing that the friends you thought you had, aren't really there. Having moved to a new state a year and some months ago, I thought i had made new friends (which is hard when you're out of high school and opted out of a state university). But now i realize that the "friends" i have now are more aquaintances to pass the time with than to actually rely on when i have a problem. And it hurts to feel alone. Which I feel more than any deep, cryptic meaning, is what Anthony and the boys were trying to convey in this song. That it hurts to realize, or feel, that you are truly alone. |
