Good job guys as the meaning of the song has been pretty much explained. However, I was kinda bummed out about something in the lyrics here & I don't know if anyone mentioned it here already. In the 1st verse, the lyrics read: No Love No Glory, No Hero In Her "Skies" I always heard it as: No Hero in her "Scars" and I thought that was such a beautiful lyric & I felt let down when I read "Skies." I hope it was a typo in who ever posted the lyrics but I doubt it. Anyway, My version is better & more touching so I'll deviate from the original lyric just for selfish reasons. =) Great Song BTW! |

Wow, I'm surprised only a couple of yall touched on the song's true meaning and only briefly. THIS SONG IS ABOUT A MAN WHO'S STRUGGLING WITH HIS SEXUALITY AND IS STARTING TO THINK HE'S A WOMAN AND STARTS DRESSING UP LIKE ONE..." Hence the lyrics "I HAD SO MUCH TIME TO SIT & THINK ABOUT MYSELF AND THEN THERE SHE WAS." Not to mention he's in "DOWNTOWN" NYC which is a Drag-Queen heaven. Anyway, then after he's in Drag, he's looking at himself in the mirror and doesn't recognize himself. Hence, the lyrics "WHO'S THAT LOUNGING IN MY CHAIR" and "WHO'S THAT CASTING DEVIOUS STARES IN MY DIRECTION" And at first he's embarassed and can't believe what he's doing... The lyrics "MAMA THIS SURELY IS A DREAM" but at the end he realizes this is what he is and he has to accept it in order to be happy. Hence the final lyrics "MAMA THIS MUST BE MY DREAM." | Good Point! JUNCTION BEBE. I truly believe that the 2nd verse is about only being able to climax sexually when she thinks of her current man. But the video does suggest that she is not interested in her ex's advances and her door buzzer goes off and she runs to meet her current man for lunch. OH AND SOMEONE SAID THAT "STELLA" IS THE NAME OF A BEER. MAKES MORE SENSE. I'M THINKING IT WAS A REFERENCE TO "A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE..." Way off huh? LOL, I didn't know what else to make of it. And the line "WHO TRULY STUCK THE KNIFE IN FIRST?" is saying that it's his fault if he's hurt about her cheating because he was warned about her tendencies but got involved with her anyway... | Hey CDUB... The word "Ruca" is a word that Brad used to refer to a female in a different Sublime song like he does with "Heina" in Santeria. By the way I can't understand how people are dissing this beautiful song. I loved it when i first heard it (rarely happens with me). And then seeing the video with the eerie images of Brad's ghost made me so sad. Another great musician's shocking demise. OH YEAH, AS FAR AS THE MEANING... | I can't believe people are actually saying and believing that these lyrics were made up on the spot and better yet meaningless. These lyrics are obviously very personal to Eddie V. and he never offered an explanation to his band or his fans. They are however way too brilliant too fall out of thin air they were written somewhere by Eddie and he saw an opportunity to sing em over his fellow bandmember's riffs. THE MOST ACCURATE OF EXPLANATIONS REMAINS THAT OF A "YELLOW LETTER" OR TELEGRAM RECEIVED WHEN A SOLDIER IS KILLED. I ALSO BELIEVE IT'S FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A GHOST OF A SOLDIER WHO IS WATCHING HIS LOVED ONES RECEIVE IT. HENCE, THE LYRICS "I DON'T KNOW IF I WAS A BOX OR A BAG?" AND THE END "I KNOW I DON'T WANT TO STAY" ...TO SEE HIS FAMILY HURTING. BUT THAT'S MY OPINION HERE. I loved this song when i had no idea what he was saying, but once i read versions of the lyrics and understood them, it made me cry.
