Seems to me it's about anal sex. It's the story of a couple experimenting for their first time: "Go to the edge swim" they're taking it 'to the edge' so to speak by trying new things, and what really sets me in that direction is: "Brown the eyes that sleep has rendered blind" Sleep here is not literal, more an allusion to night. A brown eye that's poked out every night? Convincing to me at least. |

| Beautiful song. The meaning is pretty clear to me, a still-born infant. Spoken from the mother's (or at least one of the parents, just seems maternal due to the female vocals) point of view, this song is about the child's struggle to survive and how much said child means to the speaker. | |

I know that my viewing of this song is skewed from my limited personal experiences. But I can't help get the feeling this song is about drowning out a breakup with drugs/alcohol: "Well, talk to all the others And bring me back to earth" Sounds like he's out of it, needs help to get his life together. "I'll drink your poison and say I'm still not going away" Again, toasting to his lost love. Calling it 'your poison' points it at his ex, blaming her from it. Still not going away = will never get over her, or at least not in his current state of mind. |
