Personally, this song is reminiscent of an old relationship I had with a musician. He was very into the mechanics of music making. It would not be odd to see him falling asleep in the glow of his computer screen. Now I think of him time to time - I see him on the net - "an open window" - he lives on the coast - so I can swim upon his shore as it were...and sometimes I can still feel his presence...Yet he is not the same man I new - that man is fading away and I hardly can recognize him in his spirit. I think he is haunted by the past and what could have been but he ran from happiness because he needs his "tortured soul" to create his music. But when I put my hands on my keys and pull him from the net onto my music player and feel his music and wonder if I am haunting him...as a joke..as a lark..and sometimes I know I am... and he of all people would love the binary heart reference... |

I see in through the context of hearing that Beth was gay. Through that light - the mask, and little sister become more evident in their meaning. Could that be why her salvation keeps getting her down. Wither salvation in religious matters - which traditionally (though not uniformly) reject homosexuality. If the salvation is being who she is without fear - then that could get her down if she has to deal with shedding the "mask." |
