| Counting Crows – You Can't Count on Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |

@ first i thought he was saying "you CAN count on me"..and then i realized once i reviewed the title again, that i only were wishing it said "you can count on me." He is really saying "you CANT count on me" and that is because he was left before and the girl is coming back to him again. Him saying "I'm coming along real good" and "But you're just my toy" are just a couple of many lines that indicate he is okay now, without her, whether it means it took a long time for him to heal or if she was just a "toy" to begin with. he doesn't need her. I think because of the emphasis at the end of the song with the repetitive lines.... "There's just one thing you'll need to know. And that's that you can't count on me. Oh, you can't count on me. No, you can't count on me." ...we are reminded he does NOT need her and he doesn't want anything to do with her.... |

Anna Begins is the most beautiful song ever written. It can be viewed from many different aspects and opinions. To me, it is about a relationship that is struggling. If you go to annabegins.com and view song meanings, Adam tells of the meaning to him. He met a girl on vacation and it doesn't work out in the long run. "I am not worried I am not overly concerned with the status of my emotions "Oh," she says, "you're changing." -They love eachother but the boy in this relationship is not sure of himself. He doesn't know if he wants to be with her. He is fearing commitment and ignoring what his heart is telling him..he wants to love her but he is so confused. All the while, the girl is in love with him so badly. There are distractions in his life that get in the way of his feelings for her. He is so lost, but doesn't realize that she is hurting so badly without his true self that she first met. "Wrap her up in a package of lies, send her off to a coconut island, I am not worried, I am not not overly concerned." -The boy doesn't want to hurt her because he knows she loves him so much. He will lie to her all the time and tell her what she wants to hear..she thinks things are good between eachother although deep down she knows something is up with him. "These seconds when I'm shaking leave me shuddering for days," she says. This line implies she is hurting and struggling so much because she knows he doesn't feel the same way about her anymore. " It does not bother me to say this isn't love. Because if you don't want to talk about it then it isn't love." -this line has to be the MOST disturbing of all. If the boy is not wanting to talk to the girl about his feelings and how he feels about her, then it shows that it isn't LOVE. She loves him so much but what is she supposed to do when he doesn't love her anymore? What if he does still love her though, and as said before, he doesn't know what he wants? Oh nevermind, if it was true love, he would KNOW that he wants to be with her. He would tell her how he feels and not lie to her and send her off to a state of madness and confusion(the coconut island). "I am not worried I've done this sort of thing before." The boy is not going to worry about it(meaning worry about her)- he is trying to disregard his feelings and confusion and pretend everything is okay..and it's not. He is only hurting her more and more every minute. "Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing." -He is not ready for anything. He can't commit and he can't not commit. He loves her..but can't find out what is wrong with his emotions. He needs to figure everything out and not keep her waiting, because personally, if I loved someone and they were hiding from me that they didn't love me, I would want them to tell me as soon as possible so that I could use that time to get over that person that doesn't love me because it would take me a damn long time to get over someone I love. I figure I should get started on the "getting over you" phase as soon as posible so that I could move on with my life. He needs to catch her before she falls(leaves him)!! |
