The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song stems from James Mercer's self-reflection. He often portrays himself as distancing himself from others, and preferring sitting from afar and observing to actually being a social butterfly or being part of the crowd. This is demonstrated very well in the video for Know Your Onion!, which I highly recommend.

The tone of this song, both instrumental and lyrical, largely reflects these "icy heights that contain all reason", a sort of cold and distant one. I think that ties in with the general meaning of the song, of James's tendencies, which I described above.

That's just my take on it. I might be wrong.

The Number of the Beast freaking quotes the Bible, that is. Just felt like I had to clarify.

Iron Maiden – Quest For Fire Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with Crujebsul a bit on this one, it's a very good song. Solid riffs, good screams by Bruce, and a pretty nice solo.

Iron Maiden – Still Life Lyrics 18 years ago
This song reminds me pretty heavily of The Call of C'thulu by HP Lovecraft, even though it is a song in response to all those media anti-Christ claims (even though the song freaking quotes the Bible...-_-). Methinks maybe it was influenced a bit by The Call of C'thulu or something?

Megadeth – Dread and the Fugitive Mind Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with both Fenixignition and Cote. Apparently, there's two versions of this song, heh. See, mostly what I think about this song is that it is, in essence, about judgement. However, the reason Fenixignition is right is that judgement does tend to be the biggest part of religion. Now, Dave Mustaine would more than likely not make this connection, and if he did it would not be so obvious, because he is, in fact, a born-again Christian, but it is VERY easily applied to religion.

Chorus remind anyone of Pascal's Wager?

Metallica – Trapped Under Ice Lyrics 18 years ago
To my experience, Metallica tends to put very ambiguous meanings behind their songs, maybe for universal appeal, maybe to keep us guessing as to what they truly mean, but nonetheless I very much enjoy this approach. This song, basically, is about someone dying because they're trapped in ice, but upon closer look, one begins to realize that this song is about one thing or another. Methinks it could apply to just about any situation that one cannot control, more than likely a negative one, no matter how much one tries. Yet again, I bring up the point of Metallica utilizing lyrics that are very much open to interpretation.

Megadeth – Hangar 18 Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is a pretty basic song. It's about Area 51. If you don't believe me, go watch the music video. It's on youtube. Now, as to it being called Hangar 18, that is one of the many hangars in Area 51. Don't believe me? Go look on Google Earth. It's marked on there.

Now, this song, although it is basically about Area 51 and aliens, seems to me to be a metaphor for chastising the government. What lead me to pursue this possible meaning is the "The military intelligence, two words combined that can't make sense.", but if one looks at the rest of the lyrics to the song, it seems to be speaking of government secrecy and cover-ups, and the sinister nature behind them. I may be wrong, but that's my analysis.

Megadeth – Dread and the Fugitive Mind Lyrics 18 years ago
Honestly, this song seems to be about a few things. Without taking into account metaphors, it's about a very evil man, maybe even one like the Christian antichrist.

Now, obviously, this isn't the meaning behind the song. Megadeth's songs tend to employ metaphors to make their meanings a bit deeper.

Given that I'm no poet, I'm not going to go ahead and make too many assumptions, but I'm going to go ahead and say that the chorus "What if I do get caught? What if there is no judgement? If I'm right, I lose nothing, if you're right I lose it all. I ought to get caught because I'm doing something wicket. I'm guilty, haunted by my fear, and the only consequences are Dread and the Fugitive Mind" seems to me to be about religion. Now, as you all probably know, Dave Mustaine is a self-proclaimed born-again Christian, and he used to be really screwed up. Now, let us refer to Pascal's Wager here. It states that if you do not believe in God, there is only a finite gain if you are right, but there is an infinite loss if you are not. Something tells me that this is what the first part is saying.

Very good song, I'm just a bit confused as to its meaning, so if anyone could help me finish this one up, I'd be very grateful.

Megadeth – Peace Sells Lyrics 18 years ago
Honestly, I think this song is a bit more open-ended than most of you seem to think. I mean, the beauty of many of Megadeth and Metallica's songs is that they're very much open to interpretation. I think this song is, basically, about how close-mindedness leads to conflict. Now, obviously, this could apply to government OR the typical thought of metal musicians/fans. That's just from my viewpoint, though.

I think that honestly, though, people should take this song to heart. It's a good message.
