While she said this song was about a divided country she visited, one can't help but sense a gay theme. It seems this song could easily apply to the fight that gays and lesbians all over the world are fighting, and the sence that walls are falling down daily and we're always coming one step closer to equality. |

In an interview she mentioned the 3 different verses. One of a woman who beat her battle, the second being her own personal fight with "the darkness", and the third as an inspiration to those who are just beginning their battle.
This song has personal meaning to me because a friend was going through chemo, and we both found comfort in this song. Beautiful work, Melissa, as always. |

Older song, I know, but still wanted to comment. This album was released about the time I came out to my family and friends. If anything it was a catalyst. The first person I told was a close male friend who I secretly had a crush on. Of course, I didn't tell him this when i told him I was gay, but I mentioned the song... about a year later he admitted he figured it out. Though nothing ever came of it, we're still close friends, and he still teases me with this song and that infamous line. |
