I am going to go out on a limb and suggest something different to the above. I think it is mostly about lonliness. The singer has spent a lot of time with her own thoughts. She seeks the company or intimacy of somebody she admires, but doesn't know very well. i will lean into you and you can be the wind i will open up my mouth and you can come rushing in you can rush in so hard and make it so i can't breathe i breathe too much anyway i can do that anyday The singer nearly forgets she has everything she needs. The air around her nourishes her - yet she forgets that it is important she so desperately wants the nourishment of intimacy with a paricular person. i just wish i knew who you were i wish you'd make yourself known probably you don't know i'm her the woman you want to call home i'll keep my ear to the wall i'll keep my eye on the door 'cause i've heard all my own jokes and they're just not funny anymore i laugh too much anyway i can do that anyday The singer has spent so much time with her own thoughts that she is no longer able to amuse herself. She needs the injection of energy or the different outlook of somebody else. have you ever been bent or pulled have you ever been played like strings if i could see you i could strum you i could break you make you sing The singer is saying that she thinks she could do the same for this other person `you'. Provide the energy or different outlook to make them `sing' but i guess you can't really see the wind it just comes in and fills the space and everytime something moves you think that you have seen its face and i've always got my guitar to play but i can do that anyday The singer realises that she is trying to build up a complete picture of a person from very little information. She thinks she knows how fantastic this person is - but on reflection she doesn't really know. You can't directly observe somebody's persona - only the actions that they carry out - and this can be misleading. After a time further reflection on the small amount you have seen doesn't yield any more insight. She amuses herself by playing guitar - but this doesn't alleviate the lonelinees. Anyway - that's what I have always taken. Maybe you will disagree... |
