| Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I have to agree with you. It is basically all the traits you see in the cowardly lion. I think what is different is that in the end, he can't really trust a wizard to fix problems he made up in his head. He also can't go blaming his own heart for his problems. He needs to take the blame for himself. The way I interpret it is that the cowardly lion made no character development in the wizard of oz. XD | |
| Regina Spektor – Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria Mori Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I'm pretty sure the quote was used before WWI, and Wilfred Owen used it calling it an "old lie". Regina Spektor refers to this: "And the lie's still repeating through the years Dulce et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori" I think this song is a statement on how the times have changed from when going to battle was glorious, even though back then the ideal was glorious but the truth was not. I just stumbled upon this song recently and I really like it. |

| John Lennon – Happy X-Mas (War Is Over) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is telling us to enjoy christmas as a whole. This is the one holiday that is celebrated throughout the world without question. This is the time for the whole world to be one, and as one we can reflect on a year gone by. The song is telling us to reflect on what we have done for peace in this world, and helps us realize that many of us have done nothing. Christmas is a time of peace, and yet it comes at the end of the year. A new year comes, and with the dawning of this new year is the hope for an end to war. Fear is not present during christmas, but this should be true throughout the whole year. So this is Christmas... apparently we are still at war. You can blame President Bush... You can blame Osama Bin Laden... But the real question is, What have you done? What have WE done? Let's all dedicate the next year to stopping the war in Iraq, stopping genocide in Africa, and stopping hate globally. Send some letters to the government! ;] |

"by ecpkngt on 09-30-2005 @ 05:25:52 AM So, there's this guy. He's been friends with this woman for quite some time- always with an other people buffer, cause she's spoken for- she's got a guy across the ocean. But he starts to love her, despite his best efforts. There's always been this thread of connection between them, across whatever room. And he knows the guy she's "with" isn't good enough, but he cares about her too much to ask her to betray whatever she's got, so he's just always there in the background, caring, protecting her as something dear. And he's to her as a beloved brother- she's always there to listen and understand in that clever wild way of hers, to lift his heavy heart just by existing. Eventually, the weight of his desire for her is conflicting too much with his desire to protect her honor and his integrity. The frustration, and his values, lead him to be harsh with her sometimes, or cold, and push her away. But she sticks by him whatever he throws at her, only wanting to keep her good friend, as such, and knowing his heart is right. There's turmoil. Verbal wrestling. Anger. Tears. Eventually, he can't handle it any more and tells her that he feels for her in more than a brotherly way. He knows he can't handle it- he's got to go. All this mess, all these months of friendship and support and turmoil and pain will have been in vain, left cold and empty and pointless. But though he can't pursue her as he'd like to, he can't bring himself to walk away. And she just won't leave him alone- which breaks him." damn, this is exactly who I am. It breaks my heart, and that's why I totally love this song. |

| Jimmy Eat World – A Praise Chorus Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Are you gonna live your life wonderin' standing in the back lookin' around?" This draws up the image of a wall flower (guys that stand at the sidelines during a school dance) So here, the singer relates life to a dance party or rock show and the lifestyle of being a spectator and never joining in on the fun. "Are you gonna waste your time thinkin' how you've grown up or how you missed out?" This part is about dwelling on the past, and by saying you're wasting your time, he is implying that thinking about how you've missed out in the past is causing you to miss out in the present. "Things are never gonna be the way you want. Where's it gonna get you acting serious?" He's saying that no matter how hard you try, with jobs school money etc, your life is never gonna be exactly how you want it to be. But by trying so hard to get there, your always acting serious and you never have any fun. "Things are never gonna be quite what you want. Or even at 25, you gotta start sometime." "I'm on my feet, I'm on the floor, I'm good to go. Now all I need is just to hear a song I know. I wanna always feel like part of this was mine. I wanna fall in love tonight." The chorus brings you back to the comparison of life to a dance party or rock show. Of course anyone knows that it's hard enough to get on the dance floor, let alone start dancing. But it only takes one song you know and like to bring you into the mood, and from then on the floor is yours and no one else exists. You fall in love with the music, with life. "Are you gonna live your life standing in the back looking around? Are you gonna waste your time? Gotta make a move or you'll miss out. Someone's gonna ask you what it's all about. Stick around nostalgia won't let you down. Someone's gonna ask you what it's all about. Whatcha gonna have to say for yourself?" This whole part is about what your gonna say about your life when someone asks you. This is like thinking into the future. Will you have anything to say? You wanna be able to say that you had a fun life in the past. "Crimson and clover, over and over. Crimson and clover, over and over. Our house in the middle of the street, why did we ever meet? Started my rock 'n roll fantasy. Don't don't, don't let's start, why did we ever part? Kick start my rock 'n rollen heart." References to songs, like the previous poster said. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Polaris Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about a long distance relationship. The name "Polaris" can help with that by implying a bipolar relationship, meaning the two people are at complete opposite sides of the world. the first verse gives the listener a sense that the singer is insecure with the stability of his current relationship by saying he has made mistakes in the past. One can assume from this that there is danger of a breakup and the singer does not want this. The second verse talks about him actually travelling to her, which implies that they are already in a long distance relationship. The chorus is pretty self explanatory from here. Even when someone has to go far away, love will still be there. In the worst of times, though that person may not be there, it's comforting to know that someone out there still loves you. And that's good enough. The singer then says that though the girl has to go away, he'll let her go but it'll hurt him everytime he does. The next verses i'm not so sure about. He probably just wants her to say that she still loves him, and that he'll always remember the times he's had with her as the best times. The bridge, i think, is him saying that he's said everything to say. He'll try but he doesn't want to let her go again. Then he goes on asking if the girl is satisfied with these fake "fond goodbyes", because though he is saying goodbye, he wants to do exactly the opposite and tell her not to go at all. The train approaches, she leaves with a final kiss goodbye, and the singer hopes that this kiss will remain a true symbol of their love while she is gone. |
