In my opinion, it's about fending off the oertures Genesis was making trying to make him feel guilty about leaving. Stop staring at me like a bird of prey, I'm all mixed up, I've got nothin' to say. Sometimes it's better to put it out of your mind. I don't remember. |

| Peter Gabriel – The Family and the Fishing Net Lyrics | 18 years ago |

It's actually a cryptic fantasy about a' family' who's lost a member, and their efforts to bring them back into the fold. As seen by the 'outsider'. The 'family' being Genesis, and the lost sacrificial 'lamb' being Peter Gabriel. |

It's the only 'post Gabriel' Genesis song with a positive message. Too bad they couldn't keep their 'blue skies' vibe going after this song. I would have liked to say I was a Gensis fan, when they needed fans, but I couldn't handle all the whining and finger pointing of those days. I agree, though, it's a greta song. |

| Peter Gabriel – Flotsam and Jetsam Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The song is about, first being famous, then not being famous. A lot of artists feel their relationship with the audience, akin to one with a woman. 'If only I could Touch you.' If only I could get through, to make you see. It's a fantasy, really, because Peter Gabriel already had hordes of fans, that had already been 'touched'. The part about 'something ugly's gonna show' refers to being a solo artist, and not having four talented musicians to cover up the imperfections. an insecurity issue, butterflies, stagefright, call it what you will. You have to understand the 'I talk in pictures not in words' scenario. |

| Peter Gabriel – Family Snapshot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Boy are you guys out in left field, it is based on 'Assassin's diary', but that's where you guys tangent off. It's about the 'two singers' Peter and Phil, and the verbal attempts at discrediting each other, through the music. It confronts inner feelings such as anger and jealousy, and presents them as played out projections of fantasy. Hence at the end, 'a lonely boy, hiding behind the front door.' So, it's not about an real execution, like you've all speculated, but more of a 'what if' type scenario that EVERYBODY hes run through their heads, and should identify with. Usually, Peter's lyrics, be they in Genesis or in his solo work, are rooted in a hidden and deeper meaning that is usually present on the surface. The SECRET WORLD. |
