In book called "I'm OK - you're OK", which is about Transactional Analysis (kind of psychotherapy), there's a paragraph saying "I play a game of Internal Courtroom, with my Parent acting as judge, jury and executioner. It's a fixed trial, ad my Parent decides in advance that I'm guilty."
I just came across it while reading the book. I immediately recalled this song. As James had some issues and went to rehab, it's quite possible he was acquainted with some of this stuff. It's about self-defeating behavior (that can result in things like drinking) that is implanted into our minds usually by our parents (their critical attitude). Bot of those things fit James very well and also the rest of the song sounds like he's now rejecting this behavior and let's himself carry on (grow out of the bad habits). |

How about the "evil" is James and the "you" is the listener? Because the lyrics are very loose, it fits for me. More sonds can be interpreted like this, for example Master of Puppets. It fits nicely my corrupt idea of James being the "master of puppets" that controls the crowd ang "gets through you" - you sing his songs in your mind, so he "becomes you"... :) |

This one is about... You bury your friend. Just as you're finished covering the grave you have to shovel some more dirt on the grave. You get the point? Life's been hard on you but it's not going to be any better. As soon as you finish one grave, there is another to dig. |

I think this is about denying heavy metal music is "dead an burried" as Zakk once said before playing acoustic version of this song. The lyrics of verses fit that theme pretty good. |
