Bob Dylan – Queen Jane Approximately Lyrics 16 years ago
The trick of writing pop music is to write lyrics which will have a general appeal. Dylan talked about this in his description of his idols singing as though they knew something that others didn't. He also talked about using imagery to evoke emotional response. It's part of the magic of the art of writing songs. Dylan is a student of history and literature. He knows who Queen Jane was, and her story may appeal to him, but again, unless you know what was going on in his head at the time he composed it, you will never decipher any personal meanings that he may have had. It's all about imagery, poetry, musical meter and the magic of ol' Bob. He's a master at the art, enjoy it. When a reporter once cited him as the poet laureate of his generation, he responded saying he always thought of himself as a song and dance man.

Dire Straits – Six Blade Knife Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is about how anything can be a crutch and can become a burden, explicitly a six string guitar. Some of these references are about the magic of the guitar's ability to elicit emotion. I know personally that playing can carry me away, much like a drug. The connection to his guitar is double edged, it brought him wealth and fame, women, and also becomes a burden and escape from reality.
