I think those thinking that the girl in this song dies is taking it too literally. Here's how I look at it: They had something. They had a bittersweet relationship, and they were so into each other, but she wouldn't admit it was love. The boy leaves her "on accident", meaning he did or said something that caused them to break up. He can't stand the fact that he did this, and he goes looking for her. Out of being upset, she's left. Now, he's still hoping to get back together. She says "I've done something terrible [by letting you leave me]. But I'm over you. I'm at home, in the clouds, blissful without you, towering over your head, so much better off than you are right now." That's how I personally interpret it. But that's how I see it. |
