what I love about this song (besides its aesthetic beauty) is its alternate meanings. theres the obvious two (mother or girlfriend), which are both extremely meaningful, and relateable. and either way, its a wonderful song. love it. |

beautiful with enough obviousness in their lyrics to be understandable, and enough vagueness to keep us looking deeper, and to cater to anyone. my fave song of theirs |

| I basically agree with Suicide on this, and most of you as well. unrequited love, his co-dependency, his struggle, her "leaving" him in the end | |

I'm not going to go into the meaning of this song since I feel it's been covered, and its just vague enough to have plenty of deeper meanings but... I think one of the best things about this song is how it touches people. Just about everyone who listens to it, it captivated, and mostly, pushed back into those bittersweet memories we all have. whether they be painful, or full of longing, Staind has made the song that we can all fall into. kudos to them |

I still dance around the meaning of this song, cuz i cant ever really settle down on what i fele it represents but... this is an AMAZING song. my favorite ever that they've made. Corey is an absolute genious when it comes to songs. and like many of their other songs, i'm sure that this one has more then one meaning. |

I agree with Chaos and people who say its about drugs. The first few times I read the lyrics I was confused, but then I started to piece together everytihng and the mor ei Read it the more I think it's about his drug problems. The song is actually very much self explanatory. Though, I think there is more then just his drugs in there. It may have something to do with a murder as well, because hes talking about clearing the stone of leaves (grave?) and taking her breathe away. so maybe in his drug induced state he killed his love, and its just helping to push him over the edge. For those who say Corey gave the true meaning. well, he's been known to give just one meaning to a song that has more then one. i'm pretty sure he likes leaving most of the meaning to us. plus he's a lyrical genious so... |
