The song is about insecurity in a replationship. He doesn't feel he deserves the gift (her love, her commitment, everything that she gives to the relationship they are in) she gives him - and it's something he tries to reciprocate but can't. He wants her to hold him, to take and to fill the void he has in his heart. Then he gets up in the morning and looks at his face in the mirror and his self esteem is low and he appear disgusting to himself - now add on to that being strung out on booze and drugs and the self esteem goes lower. He lived a lie while in the relationship they had. He was warning Amy when he wrote this song of things to come and trying to express how he felt to her.
At least that's my interpretation.

It's about Elric. The whole album is a concept album about Elric. Even the album cover has Elric on it. Gods, you people are dense. Perhaps one of the most influential people on Heavy Metal has been Michael Moorcock and I don't think he realizes it. |
