I love how in the beginning of this song when she says "He's stupid/ I'm smarting" it almost has a childlike tone to it. But as the song progresses, she talks of how she wants something (her baby) and talks of roses, very feminine. But at the end of the song she knows that her baby is HERS, she feels it is her right, which is more of a grown-up concept. Just my way of looking at it, like having Frances and going through the Vanity Fair incident helped her grow. I love Courtney, burn me if you must. |

I htought the song was about Steven's daughter Liv. She didn't know Steven was her father until she saw Aerosmith woth her mother, model Bebe Buell, at the age of nine... The lyrics make most since to me in that perspective, but Liv and Steven both claim they have a good relationship and Liv never really felt "abondoned" or so forth because her mother's boyfriend at the time of her birth was her father figure, even after she met Steven... Anyway, enough analyzing. I love this song, it has beautiful imagery and the video compliments that. I love Aerosmith :) |

I don't know if this meaning has any actual basis or truth, but I have always heard (mind you, heard from other Pantera fans) that this song is indeed about the death of a past girlfriend of Phil Anselmo, who he got in an arguement with so she left his house, and she got in a car wreck on her way home. Like I said, I'm not sure if that translation is true or not but from the lyrics it would sort of make sense... but I don't know, that's just my two cents.
I love Pantera, too bad they couldn't have kept it together... RIP Dimebag. |

This song has a personal meaning to me, although it isn't what Maynard's was when writing this song. About a year and a half ago I was dating a guy who I absolutely adored and a few months into our relationship he started using meth and he basically wasted his time, energy, money (existance), on it, among other drugs. He would often talk to me about how he felt like his life was going no where, all he was doing was "watching the weather change." We broke up for a while then went through the cycle of getting back together, over and over. Codependent/enabler, something no one ever wants to be. I felt like all I could do was wait for him to straighten up... and watch the weather change. Obviously it didn't happen, it hardly ever does. But I'm not watching the weather anymore. |

I think this song is so eerie and beautiful. The album was based upon the "12 Step" Program which all of the songs display a need/want/desire/hold onto some type of addiction. I think "Gravity" is te release of the process, finally getting over the moutain to the otherside. Vulnerable still, but doing much better, realizing the wekness and the ability to get better and start a new, clean life. This song means a lot to me. I love reading all the different interpretations. APC is the best! |
