I find KDJLAH’s very similar to mine. I think the carnival is a life style. Where my opinion changes is the taming of the lion, which is probably my favorite imagery in this song. I feel the lion being tamed is himself. He “tamed” himself to the standards of society, but that lifestyle, “the carnival” was always part of him and it eventually shined through. I find this imagery incredible and I would expect nothing less from Kevin. He is a great writer.
Another take I see slightly differently is the flaming sword. I imagine the flaming sword as paraphernalia, like a crack pipe or something. Its flaming because its been used recently, not literally flaming but as if he used it and passed out and the next morning its by him for this girl to find and he is basically caught red handed.

I feel like most of you dont understand the story behind the album. You should defenately look it up. I'd rather not tell the hole story because thats how storys become wrong(to many people tell them and they get inturprited wrong) but thejist of it is he was dating girl for several years and she left him and five months later she was ingaged to someone else. i know the feeling. the whole album is based on his depression. this song in particular i can relate to. I'm not going to kill babys or drive off a bridge but haven't you ever wanted to. |
