Elliott Smith – Alameda Lyrics 16 years ago
This describes my friend perfectly. And I'd like to think I'm the girl that liked him for a minute or two.
It's someone who is so manipulative, and acts like he doesn't need anyone but really he relies on his friends and their concern to get by. But certain friends, Elliott in this case, are sick of it and is telling him that he doesn't deserve their worry and sympathy.

Regina Spektor – Lacrimosa Lyrics 18 years ago
I interpreted it as a kind of combintation of what some of you already said, especially tikilali.
I think that a lot of it is about trying to play god. Icarus and his father wanted to fly and be like birds, something that humans were not granted with. As a result he grew too cocky, flew too close, etc. And now we're burying dead, almost expecting them to come back. We think we're invincible.

And since I didn't see that anyone posted it, here's
the translation of what she says in Latin. It'll probably help with interpretations:
Tearful that day,
on which will rise from ashes
guilty man for judgment.
So have mercy, O God, on this person.
Compassionate Lord Jesus,
grant them rest. Amen

The Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet with Butterfly Wings Lyrics 18 years ago
I have a theory with "like old job"...I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, since I didn't read every comment.
But in the Bible, Job had all sorts of horrible stuff happen to him by Satan, and he never freaked out at God, instead, he just kinda dealed with it I guess.
So I always thought, when he was gonna keep his cool, like Job, he was gonna try not to flip out as the world was crashing down and he was feeling trapped.
But at the end I think, he can't be like Job, and thinks that God has abandoned him and he can't pretend it's ok ("can you make it, for just one more show"). And thinks Jesus was God's only son, and he isn't.
Of course...I don't know how into biblical references and such Billy Corgin is, so I could be off. That's what it means to me, personally, though.
