Wow, I wonder what this song could be about. James LaBrie is a fantastic singer, but lyrical subtlety doesn't appear to be his strong suit. |

| Dream Theater – As I Am Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The way I've always seen this song is as sort of a "fuck you" to the music industry. Cookie cutter industry created bands who are just there to sell records (the sea of mediocrity) get all the attention, while bands who actually care about making good music (like Dream Theater) are told to change and be more radio friendly. The entire first verse is telling the industry to stop asking them to be more commercial. I also take parts of it as telling music critics to stop criticizing progressive music just because they don't understand it. |

| Sonata Arctica – Out in the Fields (Gary Moore cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I took this song to mean that war effects us all, regardless of who you are or where you're from. Also, "The fighting has begun, in the streets"; this leads me to believe that the song may also be about some kind of hypothetical rebellion, but maybe I'm just reading too much into it. |

| The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| By no stretch is this a "song". I think all Revolution 9 does is disprove the idea that The Beatles could do no wrong. Seriously. The Beatles are one of the best bands of all time. That being said, how the hell could someone, even someone on acid, think this was even close to being listenable, let alone good? | |
| David Bowie – I'm Afraid of Americans Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think most of the song is just about how scary American culture is to us outsiders. To non-Americans, it looks very violent and unstable, and zealous. The 'God is and American' part, I think is referring to how many Americans see God. They assume that naturally, God must be pro-America and against America's enemies. They see Jesus as a white guy, when he was actually middle eastern. It's about their twisted perception. |

| Dream Theater – You Not Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Funny enough, though, this was their hit song on MTV back in the days... :)" Actually, this song was never that big on MTV. Their biggest hit in the mainstream was Pull Me Under, which was lucky enough to hit just before bubblegum pop took over. You or Me is better. |

| Dream Theater – Just Let Me Breathe Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Mikachu, the whole reason they wrote this song was because of the increased pressure from their label during the FII sessions. Also, the line 'Just close your mind, you can find all you need with your eyes' is sarcastic, referencing 'Close your eyes, you can find all you need in your mind' from Take the Time on Images and Words. |

| Dream Theater – Prophets of War Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| They're not saying America in general is profiting from war, they're talking about certain Americans who are (Cheney, Haliburton, Bush, etc). And no, Bush doesn't really profit financially, but does by gaining power over the people. | |
| Dream Theater – Beyond This Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The song (at least most of it) is someone reading a newspaper article about events that previously happened (for those who don't know, Scenes From A Memory is a rock opera). A young girl and her suspected killer are found dead, and the 'witness' reported that he tried to stop the suspected killer. | |
