I found this site because I wanted to know all the word when I sing it every friggin' day. I'm not 12, I'm 35. I'm a successful, attractive, newly single woman who with a group of my friends "party like rock stars" and pay for it on Monday. We all like this song because it does what music is supposed to do - provide entertainment through escapism. Anyone who made a comment thinking that there was anypart of this song that was serious, is going to have an ulcer by the time they are my age. Lighten up. Go listen to "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" by Dr. Hook. It's the same song in a different decade. It's about a fantasy life of excess. Whichever member of the band wrote it, it's totally sarcastic because, love em or hate em, they are rock stars and they DO sign autographs for free quesadillas and they probably have joined the mile high club at 37,000 feet (considerably more than a mile for our canadian friend from earlier). There is no reality here and anyone who thinks that the writer actually wants all that and would cut his hair to get it is missing the point. We all want it to a certain extent. If I could have a tour bus full of old guitars in exchange for cutting my hair and changing my name, I'd do it in a heart beat but there so much more drama to that life and the writer knows it. The irony is that it's not that simple and as easy as Mtv and Vh1 wanna make it look that way. The writer knows it and anyone who is actually trying to make it in the business knows it. Some idiots get lucky and are able to cash in before evryone figures it out but it's sometimes about whether you want to do something that matters or be Vanilla Ice or Gerardo for the rest of your life. |
