Briggers. Refers to is incorrect, it of course predicts such happenings. As it predicts Thatchers 1979 election victory (all over people changing their votes......)
Joe was looking at such bands and happenings and predicting what as coming

The Clash – Rock the Casbah Lyrics 15 years ago
Joe Strummer did NOT write this, Topper Headon did.
The song is about Bernie Rhodes (The King and the Sharriff in the song) trying to influence the musical direction of band (The boogie men).

The first part is the disappointment felt by Joe after being exited at the prospect of seeing the artists mentioned live and then being let down by their total lack of soul.
The NEW GROUPS are the JAM and it refers to a quote from Paul Weller in 1979 where he said "If there was a general election tomorrow I would vote tory" and at the same time the JAM sing of rebellion to line Mr Weller's pockets. Remember the Style Council!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Enola Gay Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anyone out there understand Irony?

The song is Ironic, in that the horrible consequences of what happened were considered "Conditions normal" by the pilot.

It is a condemnation of the bombing and contrasts the Mothers kiss to her little boy (Enola Gay was the pilots mother) with the Kiss of death given by the atomic bomb.

Echo and the Bunnymen – The Cutter Lyrics 16 years ago
The song centres on the band trying to make it in the music industry.
The CUTTER is rejection and the song focuses on Ian's fear of rejection and his reaction to it (drug taking).
"What's in the bottom drawer, waiting for things to give" He is saying that when things go wrong he turns to drugs.
"With selotape and knives" is a play on words on the biblical quote from Revelations "With seven tapered knives"
Revelations is about the end of the world which is how the Singer sees rejection.

It is about the thin line between success and failure and how people react to it.
Cracking tune!!
