I really wish Rodriguez had a larger American following. No one, and I mean NO ONE, in America knows about him or his music. This song is significant for me because this is the first song that I heard of his and I had absolutely no idea who it was and it took me quite a while to find out. Why do people always have to assume that everything is about drugs? I mean, c'mon, now we're associating the color green with pot? Crazy. Anyway....
I believe that this song is referring to Reverend Al Green. The course has many lines similar to the title of a famous Al Green song: Let's Stay Together. By the way if you're ever in Memphis you should really stop by for a service. Very satisfying.
Now the point of the song in my opinion is Animal Collective as a band staying together through thick and then. For anyone that doesn't know they don't live around each other and between all the solo projects they've grown apart over the years. When he says things like this is the best we've ever played it and talks about how they're all together it makes me think that they're thinking about the fact that the group is still together. It almost seems like he gets overly excited during the course because he's with his band and forgets that they hadn't played together for awhile. Then again, it's Animal Collective. Who knows? They're great and always have been, though. |
