| My Chemical Romance – Sleep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think that this song is about Gerard's addictions. The uppers and downers that he was on always made him "sleep", put him in a place beyond the world and left him numb, made everything a dream. Now that he's recovered, he looks back at the addict, the "monsters that I've been" with "unapologetic apathy", and hates that person. His diction in the lyrics is deliberately unfavorable, painting the speaker, the addict, as a cruel being intent on causing pain and feeling no remorse. The chorus is Gerard's current voice, sober and reflective, questioning the dedication of the people around him. While he was such a horrible person, how did they stand by him and continue trying to help? |

To build on the comments already presented, I thought that she might be depressed and suicidal, but after her initial submersion she sees the titular "light". Water can serve as a type of baptism, and she speaks often of religious tones, "heaven is the future", etc. The first verses of the song actually condemn suicide as a "sorry waste to take the easy way out". Instead of wishing to die, the speaker finds new hope in religion and encourages others to look for new hope. (I'm not a devout Christian, nor overtly religious; this is just my interpretation.) |

| Panic! at the Disco – She Had The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This... became rambling. But, my thoughts. This song is about a girl who controls every part of her world, can ask for something and smile in just that adorable way and receive anything she wants. But what she wants it the narrator… and he just won’t fall for it. She’s decided that she can’t be happy unless he loves her (when she personally doesn’t really love him, it’s a whim) and she’s never had to work for something before – “she’d won the world at a carnival”. He’s staying just outside her reach, maybe flirting but never quite coming close enough. He likes her, there is potential for something between them – but it would never be deep and true, never true love. Any time he gives to her is at his discretion, he’s in control, taking the control away from the girl. He doesn’t think he deserves love, he’s determined to keep her at arms’ length, just trawling for a fling, not something serious. She never sees him for what he really is, blinded by the light of her own self-delusion and determination. She would lavish her attention on him, but there wouldn’t be anything deeply unique about it – she loves the entire world, including him, not ‘especially’ him. I personally love the line, “But I'm sure I didn’t ruin her, just made her more interesting.” He recognizes that he could harm her with his cold treatment, but he reassures her that this rejection will just build her character, make her realize her own limitations. In the end, he’s looking for a dream, nothing real, and she still can’t have him – she has to move on. |

| A great interpretation of Bach's original. ...KickASS. | |
| Heather Dale – Mordred's Lullaby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Obviously, it's Mordred from the King Arthur legends singing to her son. Some of the lyrics are incorrect (the child of my 'vibe' should be 'body')... But all in all, it's a great, Celtic-ish chant. | |
