The Long Blondes – Giddy Stratospheres Lyrics 18 years ago
Re: The Baffled King
Just wondering if you own The Long Blondes cd 'Someone to drive you home' because if you did you would see in the lyrics that the line is "here and listening to that dead-eyed bitch?" Perhaps you should buy the cd and read it for yourself.

The Long Blondes – Appropriation (By Any Other Name) Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes rapist, this is an obvious reference to Vertigo and Scotty's recreation of Judy into Madeline. It also recognises Judy's weakness (as in the film she wants to leave but dosn't) "But I don't have the guts to get on the bus." The Long Blondes are very clever at using underlying feminist themes in their lyrics that most people miss.

The Long Blondes – Giddy Stratospheres Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is referencing Hitchcock films which the band are heavily influenced by. Lines such as "here a listening to this dead eye bitch," "She will never take you higher than her attic room," "Your mother call your mother," are all referencing Hitchcock films including Psycho, The Birds and North by Northwest. The use of words such as attic, mother, femme fatale and train are all alluding to key themes in Hitchcock films.
The song is targeting voyerism and the male obsession of a marketed female image - the male gaze. The band are using these ideas in a satirical way to break open male stereotypes of women.

Btw Kate and Dorian both write the lyrics to the songs.
