Lisa Mitchell – Incomplete Lullaby Lyrics 14 years ago
I'd say it's "like a double ace".

This song's about an orgasm. If you doubt that, cool, keep your innocence for a little bit longer, one day you'll agree ;) The references are a bit too many in number to be chance.

Atmosphere – To All My Friends Lyrics 15 years ago
One hell of a song. Restrospective and appreciative on life as a moderately successful rapper.

iTunes, amazon.com and last.fm all disagree with you.. I don't have my copy of the EP handy to know for sure, but something tells me those three sources are unlikely to be wrong, especially when they are in agreement.

Janelle Monáe – Cold War Lyrics 15 years ago
2nd line should be "But being alone's the only way to be"

10th line should be "You spend time running from depravity"

Further on "May all evil stumble as it flies in the world" rather than "Let all legal..."
And that's followed by "All the tribes come and the mighty will crumble. We must brave this night and have faith in love" which you've missed.

Anyways, best song on the album I think anway.

Now think that fifth line is "Well day breaks and light fills the darkest room" :) Still my favorite Lisa Mitchell song.

Lisa Mitchell – Alice in Wonderland Lyrics 16 years ago
I think you will find this song is called "Sometimes I Feel Like Alice", and it already has an entry on this site. Also, you've missed this verse:

Sometimes I feel Alice
In the Queen's alluring palace
Got the playing cards on my track
Like a twisted game of blackjack

I'm not sure about that 6th line, and the line about god in the Chorus is definately wrong but I've not idea what she's singing. Anyone?

Blitzen Trapper – Furr Lyrics 16 years ago
As has been said above, it's a well crafted metaphor for the rough and hedonistic (and fun) years you go through after you turn (about) 17, when right and wrong doesn't seem particularly relevant. But then you meet that girl, and life ceases to become all about you, but you still occasionally yearn for those wild days.

If you don't think that this song is about a girl's orgasm, you're kidding yourself. I think it's well done, to the extent that even though every line is geared toward the joys that a good roaming tongue and penis will bring, its *just* vague enough for all those knowing mums out there not to lose it when they hear their daughters listening to it.

The cleverness of the thing makes me smile, I'm sure it's hard work making pop that seems appropriate for both younger and older listeners.

If you ask me, the sound and mood of the song is about perfect considering its a depicting a girl who's just scrunched up her toes, crinkled her nose, and ... mm.

And having the video clip dipicting an orgasm would have been commercial suicide, come on people, think.

I would say that this song is about "alcoholism" or partying too much, but not necessarily about overcoming it.

I feel its a commentary on the sad state of America, and the feelings of its people.

I'm not sure about that fifth line. And I wonder if she wrote those 'wells' in, or if it's subconcious.

Grinspoon – Hard Act To Follow Lyrics 18 years ago
come on and light it up
i want to feel the rush
i'll be shooting for thrills when I
walk out that door
you say it's hard to care anymore

Those lines are about heroin. Makes sense now. Makes me wonder if "You're a hard act to follow" is about every other drug after heroin just not cuttting it.. heroin is the best ? Would be a suitable way to start a song about heroin addiction. Suits all the other "nothing thrills" lines too.

you're hooked on coke and hoochie
i want my milk and cookies

Other people are all for cocaine and weed (?), I want something else (milk and cookies is slang for what? heroin ? I dont know)

That bit about the aspirin does sound right though, about waking up on teh come down and feeling like shit. The down side of heroin. Of course he would have played down the heroin and simply said "hangover" for a radio station..

Grinspoon – More Than You Are Lyrics 18 years ago
This song always seemed to me to be Phil saying "did you wanna be a rockstar ? think you had potential when you were young? Well I did, and now I *am* a rockstar, and I'm better than you". Exemplified by the main bit:

I'm more than you are
More than you are
More than you are now

However that "now" at the end would be Phil's admission that he lifted himself up, and you can do the same, so make something of your life and achieve your dreams.

However, given that it first appeared on the Green EP in 1995 (which is the best version), and no one really knew who Grinspoon was at that point, I could be wrong, as Phil proclaiming he was a rockstar at that point and that he's better than everyone would have been a little presumptious..

Always has struck me as weird when people sing this song back to Phil at concerts.. because it seems to be Phil saying "I rule and you currently suck", for the reasons above.

But what does:

I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
From the ocean to the Silver City

refer to? And don't quote the next line to me..

I think adelante and MagicTown have hit the nail on the head. The lines "And their legs were often open, But their minds were always closed" make sense now. It refers to Australian women's, and probably the general Australian public's, inability to understand, and goes with the song's general theme of the vet's inability to return to life as it was before, and to find real direction and meaning in suburban life.
