We all now know that Eric wrote this song for Patti Boyd Harrison. But a lot of people don't know the reason why he titled it, 'Layla'. He chose the name Layla after reading a love story, Layla & Mashoun. He felt like he could relate to the story due to his situation with Patti. Anyway, still an awesome song. Especially when hearing Eric perform it live. :)

Such a beautiful song. To me it sounds like a Womanizer falling to his knees for a Woman that is giving him a well deserved challenge in wanting to court her. I believe the meaning of this song is about forbidden relationships... either homosexual or just unthinkable/strange/weird to other people... TO ME, its about a true love relationship with whoever or whatever even if they're not physical.
