a) i honestly don't understand it when people say that a cover "ruins" the original. is there anything about a cover that prevents you from enjoying the original? no. so if you don't like it, don't listen to it. but don't question those that do enjoy the cover because arguing about a person's taste in music is one of the most useless things you can do. everybody likes different things, get used to it. b) FOB weren't trying to "outdo" the original. ffs, if anything the cover is a tribute to the original, something that's intended to pay respect to joy division and show gratitude for the influence that they had on fall out boy. c) anybody making the argument that patrick has a terrible voice doesn't know a thing about music. he has a great range, one that's very different to ian curtis' (and much better imo), so stop trying to compare the two. i mean if patrick's voice sounded exactly like ian's you'd still all be in here complaining. d) yes i've heard the original, and i have much respect for it and joy division. but if you ask me ian's voice just drones on and doesn't do anything out of the ordinary. i'm not saying that's a bad thing for this song, but vocally i think patrick shits all over ian. then again when this song was originally released, music was in a very different place. things have changed. i think it's time you all get used to it. |
