The unruffled pillow laughing at her trusting heart sounds like he's not sleeping in her bed, which is why "his" pillow is unruffled. Him being gone mocks her trusting him not to leave. |

I was really surprised at how good this song is. I don't expect much from Toby Keith anymore. You would think the song is about how he corrupted a good girl. Instead, its about how he corrupted a good girl, but didn't do it all the way. She still held onto a little bit of her past and when things started going wrong, she helped bring him to the other side. I don't know if it'll become a classic, but it is still a pretty good song. |

I can't tell you what this song is specifically about but there's someone, probably a girlfriend or maybe his wife, who has a list (probably more of a figurative list than a literal one) of all the things he's done wrong and keeps bringing them up over and over again. You can get most of that from the first line, "Open up the book you beat me with again." Then, the lines "convictions and your lies/what right do you have to point at me" is saying that he's not the only one who's done something wrong. she's done plenty wrong too. all of these thoughts take place while he's "alone thinking about it all over coffee." The chorus then goes on to explain that he still wants to save their relationship and doesn't want to bail yet. the only part that's got me confused is the line "you cannot save me." It doesn't really seem to fit. with the rest of the song. but that's just my take on it. |
