| Yeah I think ash is on the right track but that "person" is the earth, and it's kind of apolegetic that in the very near future bad stuff is gonna happen to it. And it's all drawn from how there is so much hate going on on it. | |

The first verse seems really general to me, like it's written as if it could be about some sort of global problem such as industrialism, and on a more personal level, that we should be stopping it's effects, i.e global warming. The second verse has always really reminded of the holocaust. |

I think maybe it's kind of a love song to Jack's dad, Dave. I could be wrong, it could be a girl. But I think it would be more interesting if it's his dad. "Everytime I reach a new milestone, I am forced to your throne"- That line really clues me into the dad theory. |

Jack said it was written "for Harry and Ryan". It's actually about them, the "you" is them. In 10 years time, he expected them to be in his heaven- famous. Which is his dream that he is willing to share with them. The song also hints that he might have had a clue that his dream might not come true with Harry and Ryan, with pretty much all the ending lines of the verses "It's easy to let go/say no," and "I have no power over you". Genius song. Structure's great. |
