This was also the first song I ever heard by them, and quite frankly its still my favourite. This song was the first song I heard after my friends death a few weeks ago and suddenly the meaning of the song has hit me so much harder. Such an amazing song, especially the acoustic version on youtube. |

I'm not exactly what this song means, and I could be completely off the mark, but here it goes! "I bear the seed of ruin A golden age turned to stone Elysium ..... to dust" That he ruins everything. He can turn the 'golden' age back to stone, and he can destroy the Elysium (home to the blessed). He's cursed. "For this, a tragic journey A vision of a dying embrace Scattered earth Silence ....." Because of this curse from destroying everything, he can never be happy and merely walks the earth alone (silent), and he sees a vision of someone dying with him. "Where Echonia wept I sank into the silent desert" Echonia seems to be the girl he loves(?) and they were together, and the curse kills her (the dying embrace). "Fallen am I, In the solitude of a broken promise ..... I cried alone My empyrean is a scar From the memory of her beautiful life Forever was her name" He loved her and promised to look after her maybe? But he's broken that promise and now must weep alone. His 'highest heaven' (empyrean) is now scarred because he will never get to go there from the curse killing the one thing he loves. "Fulfilment lost in a lifetime of regret Ornate peace would cover me As I would die now ..... For one last wish" She was the one thing that made him whole and now that she's gone he's consumed with all the regret from all that he destroyed. The he says that he'd die for one wish. That wish could be lots of things, bring her back, be rid of the curse, be able to die, etc. We're sort of left in the dark on what it is. I'm probably completely wrong but that's just the feeling I get from the song. Either way, it's epic. |

This is one of my favourite Iron Maiden songs, and it surprises me all the time how people never know what I'm speaking of when I bring it up. "Do you mean Wasted Years?" No.... I mean Wasting love. It's such a brilliant song, and so heartfelt. The line 'Wasting love, in a desperate caress' hits me the hardest. |

This song is probably the greatest Otep song. I found this song at the same time I was going through the same shit and it meant the world to me. The harshness of the lyrics is exactly how it felt. I'm probably only skimming the top of the meaning of this song. I'm sure there is a deeper meaning to this song, but everytime I listen to it I get the same feeling. So whether or not this is what Otep intended the listener to feel, this is what the song means to me. To me this song is about when everything just goes to shit and you can't deal with it anymore and take it out on everyone else. Even those you love dearly. "I am invisible... I'm in this mood for days..." "You're my favorite prey 'Cause I hurt the ones I love. You're so lovely when you cry. You're so perfect when you lie." "Can't you see? I'm invisible..." It sounds as if she's saying you can't help me, nor understand how I feel, so I can't help but take it out on you, and it's not my fault because I'm invisible to you. "The stain still remains And I promise you, it never goes away." The fact that she can't deal with all of it is still there, bothering her. Hurting her. "Fire on the sides, Burned and bright, has arrived Lost in flight, on golden molted wings." "Can you see me now?" "Now do you see?" Something bad has happened as a result of this need of help and her loved one realises only now that she's feeling like this and that she needs help somehow, but it's too late. |
