Since the first time I heard this song, I have felt it as a sad song. I bacame a bit unsecure about this after reading Emma's view, because that part of the song could might as well have ment the start of a relationship. But still I feel there are too many lines in the song that indicates that they are beaking up. Like for instance the line "just enough light to see our faces give expression to the words we thought but didn't speak" Everything the person indicates to be thinking through the whole song is the fear of failing his/hers love, which gives me the impression that this is what is expressed in their faces. Also the lines "i can see that injury that accompanies the passage of you i can try to rationalize the accumulation of fear and the dreams that draw a song in pursuit of the end of time and the grace that illuminates the past" has a sad impression on me. Like the person is trying to rationalize the accumulation of fear, but doesn't quite succeed, and therefore fears the relationship to come to an end. Although, "and then you asked me a question that i won't forget even if i spend my life trying to live up to what it means" don't really indicate that something has ended, cause then the person would not have anything to live up to. Perfectly written lyrics which leaves it completely up to the listner to enterpent the meaning. |
